I have a 2.3L MK1 Galaxy and am having a problem with the car holding back once warmed up. When it occurs, if I floor the Gal it jolts and after about 2/3 seconds will stop holding back and drive OK. I have read elsewhere that it could be the EGR valve, either split hoses or coked up. My question to you all is Where the hell is it? I want to clean it or even maybe blank it off. I have spent what seems like hours staring at the engine bay, maybe I should go to Specsavers !!

Hi there

Not all 2.3s have the EGR valve, if you have it it's on the intake manifold g/box end. See pic below

Excellent thanks for the pic. I have just checked and it seems that I don't have one but I do have a small silver looking tube with a wider thin flange aroung the middle. That has a thin pipe running to the air intake after the MAF and a larger pipe disappearing down the back of the engine block. This silver 'thing' is bolted to the engine block at the rear of the engine on the top right, looking into the engine bay from the front.

Does anyone know what this is? I thought this might be the EGR but it looks a lot smaller than the diagram.

Hi Again

What your describing does sound like EGR valve, have found another pic looking down, the right circle shows EGR, the left shows where the idle control valve is fitted (valve removed)

Thanks again. I'll take a look again at the weekend and unbolt and clean the silver mystery thingy (technical term). It doesn't look like the pic at all. Should the EGR valve bolt directly to the inlet manifold? I'll take a picture, that may help.

Hi again

Just as an addition to what your doing, have normal servicing items like new spark plugs and air filter been changed recently, if it's done high mileage may benefit new set of plug leads.
