easy_lsm Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 If shit could happen it did.........and then it went dark............help!I decided to quickly change the fule filter on my newly acquired Galaxy tonight taking my 4 year old medlamaniac in the garage with me.Straight forward job, remove the 4 pipes and pop out the old filter (bracket is broken so easy to remove), pop out the valve making sure the o-ring is still there, place it in the new one after priming with diesel and refitting. No, doesn't go like that, it can never be that simple.Just as I removed the filter, 4 year old monster approaches car with screw driver and decides to 'help fix' the car!I panic, reach to take the screwdriver off him, drop the filter, spring and valve shoot out on the floor. Not so bad I hear you say, at least its not the new one.........but........ what I failed to capture in my head due to distractions is WHICH BLOODY WAY DOES THE VALVE GO BACK IN?After trying to picture it in my mind before I removed the valve I decided to fit the new filter and then work it out before the light fails completely................no chance.............the banging I heard from the back of the garage earlier and couldn't work out what is was became clear.......it was the NEW FILTER being hit on the work bench....."to bend those sticky out bits back in"Yes my son had fixed the top of the filter so the valve wouldn't fit any more.10 minutes later and lots of patience, I managed to straighten the top and fit the valve however the question still is, should the arrow point forward or backward. In my mind the arrow is the return so should point backwards but I have the feeling the clips fits the other way so I am totally confused.Help? Cheers that exactly what I wanted, the clip is to the lefthand side as I put it with the arrow to the back. Thanks very much for that, feel better now Quote
tim-spam Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Normally, you leave the hoses attached to the valve when changing the filter - that way, there's no problem remembering which way to refit it. Quote
