Hi guys, just bought a galaxy vetec, V reg 2000 model 1.9 4 speed auto,

gearbox died before i got it home, had to have it towed to a garage and they need to replace the gearbox, as i now have no money for a garage to fit and supply the gear box i'm looking for one myself but there is no info on the recon gearbox that the car has at the moment, can someone help me with the code for the gearbox, thanks julie

Mackie's transmissions put a recon in 4 years ago and it has Vag Ag4 on invoice and the casting number is 9473394 then a L or a 4 can't make it out

Hi there

Welcome to the site. Firstly don't know how you purchased the car, but I think you should have had it towed straight back to where you got it from and get your money back.

Secondly I would be very very wary buying a secondhand gearbox unless you know the history of it. + know one can possibly gaurantee how long it would last.

Im guessing you havn't paid much for this car, but your looking around the

fingers crossed you bought this from a dealer, iirc under the sale of goods act you have 28 days to reject/ensure repairs.

also even if bought privately i think you have some kind of come back.

Bought from a private seller with full service history and reciepts, car was driving fine the 67 miles home then gears slipped and died, paid 1750 for the car all the money we had saved, after getting home we had a good check of the details and the service history didn't match the same country as the MOT's, and it turn's out the service history has been falsified, googled the name of the seller and his address(only got those details on the way to see car) only to find out the seller owns a dealership and his wife is going into bankruptsy and their house was up for sale (although sign was not in garden when we were there) he had said car was their family car for last 6 years but after contacting previouse owners we found out car was a trade in 1 week before we bought it, loads more bit's and bobs were found out but Police and consumer direct dealing with it,

However as my husband is rather tall and large (ex-bouncer) he got 1300 back from the guy, and we still have car, however if it was me that went back to him for the money i don't think i would have come away with anything,

thanks for your replies guys
