Poor Mpg Occasional Rough Idle

Missus is reporting sudden poor MPG and I've noticed occasionally when starting (warm and cold) that is runs really rough for about 10 seconds then seems to clear its throat!

 

Any ideas? Would a fault code reader help? Got any warning lights on.

Hi there

Sounds like a dodgy spark plug or plug lead, quite common and simple to change, it may be something deeper but do the easy fixes first.
