bcitral Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 HI everyone, Im a newbie here and Im in the market for a used Galaxy, Al, Sharron etc Anyway I went to see a good example at a local dealer (reputable but not main) The car has fSH two owners and has been looked after, BUT It had a couple of problems. Firstly the indicators didn't work, then the rear drivers side door wouldn't open. The dealer said the the engine bay had been steam cleaned and that there was water ingress into the fuse board and had blown a fuse. Possible? Im worried that the car will develop later ECU or simular electrical problems.Other than that the car is the best one I have driven. Its done 54K and Im very tempted. They are giving 6 months warrenty on the car. and its at Quote

He offered me 6months warrenty then when I called back and mentioned I wasn't sure regarding the electrics, he asked if a two year warrenty would change my mind. Its underwritten by autotrust / carplan so its pretty reputable. If never run on gal before so Ive come to the experts for advice. Its in for its cambelt and defects fixing so I should fine out on tuesday whats happening.Im looking to keep the vechical at least 4 years as we are about to have child no.3. gregers Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 2 years eh?wonder if the dealer will give you a bit more on the px as well  every car is a gamble.but i can guarantee you will prefer the alhambra then the zaffy.i know from personal opinion :D Quote
alane Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Based on my personal experience buying a Galaxy recently my advice would be to walk away unless it's going for a very good price. There are plenty of good cars out there so why take a risk with one with known faults particularly electrics. Warranties are fine but the inconvenience of getting repairs done etc has to be taken into account. Quote
tim-spam Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Indicators will be either switch, wiring, fuse or flasher unit - shouldn't be too difficult to fix, and easy to test. They would need to fix these anyway before sale.Rear door problem is probably mechanical and new parts should easily fix this - this is not a common issue anyway. If all else is good and there's a 2 year warranty, I'd probably go for it if I was you. bcitral Posted May 10, 2010 Author Report Posted May 10, 2010 Thanks everyone. I think Im going to go back and have another look in the next couple of days. One of the neighbours has offered me their 55 Ghia TDi with all the optional extras fitted. Very nice it is too but too expensive at Quote
Jayton Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 I'd take the dealer up on that offer! But I have 2 alternatives to get to work if it went in for repairs  Quote

bcitral Posted May 11, 2010 Author Report Posted May 11, 2010 Sorry I should have said ' its a bit out of our price range. The 55 is at least 1.5 grand above our budget. I spoke to the dealer with the SEAT yesterday. He said all the electrical problems were solved by one 3 amp fuse that was blown with a boost charger as the car had been stood for a while and the battery was flat. To be far I thought he was being a little pushy. Paul One of the neighbours has offered me their 55 Ghia TDi with all the optional extras fitted. Very nice it is too but too expensive at Quote
