GT4THUG Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Hi just got a Galaxy for family reasonsand i have inherited a few gremlins too its the Ghia X and has climate control (digital heater etc) and blower fan doing nothing.. i have run 12 v across it and it blows well, but no panel control... where is the usual suspects for this to fail.... as at present i have no heat coming in.. the passenger foot well (after finding the central locking issues and windows being possesed) is peeing wet thru with water and seems to get more when it rains.... is there an issue on the MK1 with this or is my windscreen leaking ? My cruise dont work... but saying that i'm obviously just guessing how to 'set' and make it work... so an idiot you need to do this lol and i will accept being humble.... should be enough to keep me going for a few ticks before i say my rear heater dont work and find any other niggles thanks for any help Stu! marinabrid Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 the wet passenger footwell will be either the rear washer water tube that runs under there where there is a joining valve that tends to leak, or if you say its worse when it rains, it is very likely the water drain channels are blocked,if you look in the engine bay there is a big tray just under the wiper motor the water runs onto this and into each corner and then down the drains, you need to remove the inner wheel arce plastic panel you will see the end of the outlet tube at the top there is a rubber flap over the end, if you move the flap you will probly see lots of grunge that needs cleaning out some folk use a thin bendy rod and do it from the top inside the engine bay i never been able to do that , go to the faq section to find out all about the galaxy common problems and how to fix them Quote

dipsomaniac Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 the passenger foot well (after finding the central locking issues and windows being possesed) is peeing wet thru with water and seems to get more when it rains.... is there an issue on the MK1 with this or is my windscreen leaking? water flooding into my passenger footwell too. still haven't found the problem. when you find it can you let us know? My cruise dont work... but saying that i'm obviously just guessing how to 'set' and make it work... so an idiot you need to do this lol and i will accept being humble.... you need to switch the cruise control to on (slider on stalk) before pressing set to activate cruise control. make sure you are doing more than 30mph too. if still not working it is common for vacuum hose to perish and leak air. the pump is behind the nearside front indicator. you will just need to cut out the perished piece and refit. Most likely the motor speed controller ( hedgehog ! ) has died or burnt out. Its obvious to find behind the glovebox as the blower is plugged into it ( one small torx or phillips screw holds it in ). Plenty for sale on ebay or you could nick the one out your rear heater unit to test.....assuming its working as well. Quote

No ! The ballast resistor pack is for manual air-con ( dial switch going 1-2-3-4 ) and simply reduces the voltage to the blower by passing it through a different value resistor for each speed setting....except for speed 4 which bypasses the resistors. The Blower Motor Control Unit ( Hedgehog ) is an electronic device which provides a variable voltage to the Blower motor and is in turn controlled by the Automatic Climate Control unit. The Hedgehogs in the front and back of the vehicle are identical. It usually comes in Black or Red (below) although both are identical inside and fit both the Mk1 and Mk2 models. It is a VW unit ( no surprise there then ! ) part no. 1J0-907-521.Expect to pay more at Fords ( they have to make a profit you know ! ). As mentioned check operation by swapping with the rear one first. If it is faulty....check that it is not a dry solder joint ( the unit does come apart...brute force). Plenty available on ebay or breakers yard. Edited May 4, 2010 by big_kev Quote

(likje put the front speed connector back in the rear to make a full circuit ? going to try that now just in case ...) someone must of stumbled into this can o worms previously and is going to go 'oh! just do.... ' and all wont need thermals!!! Cheers Guys Stu! Quote
