gregers Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 the light comes up every now and then, have searched the forum, the consensus seems to be either the pulley or the fuse board under the bonnet?well with my problem it appears that the wires under bonnet seem fine.and ive replaced the pulley a few months back.do you wise peeps think its time for a new battery??or the alternator wanting to give up.i havnt yet tested the volts output on the battery yet.or is it something more sinister??as always cheers for any infogregers Quote

stoy@n Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Hi Greg, If tension of the belt is OK than next check connections on the alternator side.If all OK than have to check the brushes. As i remember the brushes are along with the regulator. Stoyan Quote
Bigjeeze Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 IF the problems is the charging light aslong with the Alternator warning then it probably is the brushes/regulator. Get the detail of the alternator and get a replacement - it's only a few screws to remove and re fit - then problem solved. Also cheaper than a new alternator!! Quote
gregers Posted April 19, 2010 Author Report Posted April 19, 2010 thanx chaps, just for info the pulley and tensioner was changed only a few months back with a new belt aswell.strange this seems to me a load drain, each time its happened it has been under the most load,i:e booster heater on/fans running.then when the drivers electric window was pressed the warning came up.greg Quote

chrispb123456 Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 thanx,im assuming if this is the prob then the alt needs to come off the car??yes looks to tight to do it on the car, pretty simple to take off, when refitting tap the sliding collar over on the lower bracket, makes it easier getting the bolt back in. :( Quote
