drp1 Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 I have just replaced the cylinder head on my 1.9tdi galaxy. The engine turns over fine but won't show any signs of starting. I have cracked the nuts on the injectors and fuel is getting through, although there must be a problem somewhere in the fuel system as I can see the diesel draining back from the fuel pump through the clear pipe that runs along the front of the engine. When I first re-connected the battery I got some beeps (2 beeps), which I assume are for diagnostic purposes but these have stopped now. Does anyone have any ideas? Quote
Phil Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Hi, I have had this several times, the fuel draining back is probably due to the fuel filter emptying whilst you were doing the job.the way i normally get these to start is to make sure all injector to fuelpump are tightened up and just release the left hand one just a tad to allow the air under pressure to release and try to start, if this doesnt work then i remove the wire from the diesel stop valve on the pump and link the valve to the + side of the battery, this makes sure the immobiliser isnt causing a problem and allows diesel to flow until the power is removed. zorgman Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 i tow them if ive had fuel line open. why they didnt fit a prime bulb is beyond me. you sure youve set timing correct. is there smoke coming from the exhaust. try a bit easy start in intake to whip it over. first time i did it the pump timing was wrong so no start try moving pump advance and retard to check Quote

Does anyone have any ideas?i know its not rocket science but if you are at least 1 tooth out on the timing it wont start i had this problem on a 1.9tdi 2000 it baffeled me for weeks it would start on easystart but not on its own then i spoke to a pump mechanic and he said the same so i took it all apart as it is a pain the belt and timed it spot on and brummmmmmm it started first go hope this helps Quote
