tamworthleon Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 Hi, I've just bought a 1997 2.3 galaxy.Starts fine when cold but once warm it will start then die.I have to put my foot on the gas when i turn it over then its starts ok. It also seems to tick over alittle high at around 1100 rpm till i blip the gas then it settles at 900 rpm. Not sure if its the same problem, but when im driving and goto slow down, put my foot on the clucth it rev quite high (around 1500) then settles at 900 rpm when i come to a complete stop, not before! I have no clucth drag. I did have a mis fire now and again when in a higher gear at low speed,Think i've almost got that one sorted tho.Seems that wiring around the engine, the insulation on the wiring seems to be cracking and flaking off.I've used insulating tape and covered up and bare wires. My only other gripe is the temp gauge is not reading,Comes on and moves when i turn the ignition on but thats it.I have seen it work once today but not for long.Think it could be to do with the wiring problem as its on that loom. Any pointers in the right direction would be great. Thanks Leon Quote

insider Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 There isn't a throttle position sensor on the 2.3 engine as, unlike the VW petrol engines, it has a throttle cable not electronic throttle. As you seem to have a problem with idling when the engine is warm I would first suspect the Idle Air Control valve which sits on top of the intake manifold. Sometimes cleaning this works - it's not always necessary to replace it. Quote

tamworthleon Posted April 14, 2010 Author Report Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) Hi again I'll stand corrected if im wrong but this diagram definatly shows TP sensor on the opposite side of the throttle housing where to where the throttle cable is attached it also shows the idle control valve I've had a look and there is definatly no TP sensor there,Maybe the 2.0 ltr does but deffo not mine.
