Galaxy23 Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 Hello,My gal has recently been serviced. The mechanic found that the drivers side drive shaft had some play in it,but the passenger side did not.He was unsure if this was normal on a galaxy, but he suspects not. Does anyone know if there should be play in the drivers side drive shaft and not the passenger side as the set up is different apparently ?? Quote
sparky Paul Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 I don't think it's unusual for the O/S drivehaft to have a little more play in it, due to the extra half shaft. Your mechanic should have an idea if this feels excessive or not. From what you have said, it sounds like he has some concerns, it might warrant further investigation. The splines are known to go on the Galaxy driveshafts, and when they do, it results in a total loss of drive leaving you completely stuck. Quote

Many thanks. Will have a word with the mechanic I have taken the car to a local Ford garage and the drive shafts are ok,just a small amount of play in each one which is apparently normal. What the mechanic found was that there was play in the subframe to gearbox stabiliser link so when I accelerate sometimes i hear a knock which is proably the engine mounting moving.I have spoken to Fords to get a part and they have quoted me about Quote
Mirez Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 If you are hearing a knock when accelerating then the play is serious enough. VW/Seat can't help you because the 2.3 is a Ford engine and only fitted to the Galaxy version, you shouldn't put off fixing it though, most of the time failing parts will only degrade something else into failing and this mount area is known for issues on the 2.3. If its allowing enough movement to knock then its excessive movement and I would say that before long it'll snap the retaining bolt which is extreamly common! Quote

Just remove bolts 1 and 2 as in diagram You may need the assistance of someone to rock/pull or push the engine to help in removal/replacement of bolts Edited April 10, 2010 by chrispb123456 Quote

Mirez Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Just a note, use a block of wood and a trolly jack to support the sump before undoing it - its not ideal to just let it drop. Quote

Does anyone know if there should be play in the drivers side drive shaft and not the passenger side as the set up is different apparently ??HiMy 56 plate has developed a shudder under acceleration at 60mph. Long and the short is that it was looked at by one of my local Ford dealers. There should be an amount of lateral movement in the driveshafts. My offside one does but the nearside doesn't. As a result I require a new n/s driveshaft. Hope this helps. Andy Quote
