Hello,

My aux heater on my gal doesn't work anymore.I can't hear the whinning noise like a jet engine.A few weeks ago it smoked intermittently when staionary in traffic ,white smoke everywhere.Now there is no sound from it at all.

 

I have a very basic vag com which only reads fault codes and I found the following for the aux heater

 

 

01492- Function Lock out 35-00

 

01409- Repeated Falme Out

 

Does anyone know what these mean ?

 

I am assuming it is the glow plug in the aux heater which needs replacing,but these are about

paul,you will probably find vw to be cheaper the frauds.as its mostly a vw anyways.

allow quite a bit of time.

 

the faults mean that there have been 5 attempts(flame outs)to start the heater and now it is locked out.not quite sure if you can clear the faults with your version of vag?.

Hi there I would say you at least need a new glow plug if you havn't had smoking problem in the past, if you do a lot of start stop driving the booster heater units can get sooted up and may physically need a strip down to clean out combustion chamber etc. Once new plug is fitted after clearing codes should start providing outside air temp is low enough, usually below approx 10 deg c on mk2 or 5 deg c on mk 1 or you can bridge terminals of thermal switch.

Hi again

yes the photo's on page 1 have been deleted if you go to the bottom of that page you will see a page menu you need to get to page 6 then scroll down and you will find, they are there have just looked at them to make sure.

My galaxy is on a 53 plate and I have phoned Ford today to find out how much a glow plug was for the aux heater and was quoted

The one with the trailing lead is for the later heater D5Z-F on a 53 you'll almost certainly have a D5Z-Z and need to get the plug from VW/Seat as ford don't list for the Z series. Part number is:

 

7D0-963-319 and is about

D5Z-Z is the easier one as described in the big thread - D5Z-F requires the water pipes to be removed as well.

Thanks again.Just one further question when you remove the fuel pipe from the aux heater does a load of fuel come out or is this the case only when the engine runs and is it easy to damage anything when dissassembling the aux heater./anything to take extra care with

Read the PDF I wrote towards the end of that thread (about 4 pages back from the end) - you shouldn't need to remove the fuel pipe from the heater to change the plug.

Hi again may be worth dropping unit down first just to make sure what model heater you have. I know they did change the model on the later Galaxy's, I have the part no. of the BERU plug which is 0100.226.340 that fits the Ebersp

Thanks.This is probably a stupid question,but where will i find the model no of the heater that I have so i can choose the correct heater plug.

Also there is a metallic pipe connected to the heater (situated next to the heater exhaust).Does this need to be removed at all when you drop the heater down and take the heater plug out ?

Also what is in the metallic pipe ?

The data plate is on the heater casing, the metal pipe is the air intake and will need to be removed - its only pushed into the rubber holder.

Hi again I dont think you will be able to see the data sticker with it in situ its on the end of the casing where the lead comes through dont forget the unit has torx headed bolts give them a spray with penetrating oil and also the exhaust box and inlet pipe as Mirez said they both need removing. The heater unit is in a cradle which is what you are undoing to drop down, once its down and you undo the top of the cradle/bracket you can then slide the bracket off, there are small packing pieces that should be stuck to the bracket they usually come unstuck and fall out on removal if they fall out you need to stick them back in otherwise the heater will be loose in the bracket/cradle.
