Hi all just joined......I have owned my MK1 galaxy for 9 years she is a 2000 1.9 TDI. She spent the first 5 years of her life being used as long distance taxi...clocking up 340,000 miles with no serious problems.

I retired her 2004/5 and bought a MK2 for work but kept the MK1 as a family car, since then she has only done about 1000 miles a year......anyway everything was fine until the speedo packed up I changed the sender, this made no difference so we carried on without for a while but now the rev counter, fuel guage, temp guage have stopped working.

When you start the engine the fuel and temp guage needles go to half way, the warning lights above them come on and the oil light comes on.......this is the it stays, the car drives and runs fine.

Any ideas would be gratefully received, sorry for the long post

Thanks Charlie

like most computers they need to be rebooted everyso often try disconnecting battery ensure you have radio code first though dash's are easy to change 5 screws iirc though the mileage would be out dont think it would be more though...

Thanks........I have the clocks out at the moment and I was thinking of getting some secondhand ones to try, would anyone know if they have to be for 1.9 or could they be for any galaxy

I have an issue with the instrument panel in 2005 Galaxy. The panel lights, centre console lights and the rear reg number plate lights stay on and won't go off. Have tried removing fuses related to instrument panel but no luck.

easy one this, its the earth which is lost, on the engine near battery you should see a big multiplug check the brown wires as the dash picks its earth up from there, it happened to me when i done my head took few hours of fault finding to locate it, the wire is corroded i chopped the browns off and hard wired to the earth

left of battery then theres your turbo pipe look at the engine where the water pipe runs to engine you shoild see the metal bracket that keeps the multiplug in. its a big plug approx 1.5" dia. or you can pull dash out find brown wire which is earth and add another to it.

i found this stupid earthing problem when i was sorting my head out after porting it and blanking egr valves off, theres quite a few wires go thru the plug

The multi plug on mine is just in below the dipstick....checked all the earth wires as best you can does'nt seem to be coroded. So as I have the clocks I put a new earth to them still the same unfortunately.....I think I will have to try some new clocks

Thanks again Charlie
