My TDi Galaxy has a problem with light throttle openings when it's cold. I pulled the EGR valve out yesterday to have a look and couldn't believe how much crud was inside.

I can actually see the moving parts now.

It's cleaner now and a good deal lighter, the car's still got a problem but at least I know the EGR valve is working.

Wow, mines done 110k so could prolly do with a clean too. Any pictures on where this is located?

Pull the cover off and look at the back of the engine bay, should be located just behind the engine at the top itms.

How long does job take and is it a major stripdown to get the valve off ?

Give yourself 3 hours, its fiddly with allen key studs where you cant really see them, once done block the rubber vacum pipe with a ball bearing and refit, that will stop it working and give better fuel economy and a better reading at MOT time.... but you will emit nitrous oxides... but dont worry about it!
