Rear 12v Socket Not Working

Hey my dad has just brought a 1997 ford galaxy. Its got the 2 x 12v sockets in the back and i accidently shorted it out before and have obviously blown the fuse, i just cant find which one it is?????? I have looked in fuse box but all of them look ok. Please help :rolleyes:

IIRC, the fuses for the rear sockets on a late MK1 are under one of the front seats. Worth checking

Hey ive just looked under seats, its an R reg, so is that a 98, would that make a diff? Yeh looked under seats but cant seem to see anything...

The front cigar lighter is working fine. I will go check anyway.

Checked that fuse, all ok and like i said front one is still working, ah this is annoying, we're going to be using the rear one all the time grr

Hi this may sound silly, but where the fuses are you need to get on your hands and knees, and look upwards in the fuse holder its right at the top on the left i belive there are 3 fuses there hope this helps.

I have looked, are they normal size blade fuses or mini blade fuses? All i can see at the top on the left is a row of mini blade fuses going down the side. Edited March 21, 2010 by vwsaxon

Hi just looked in TIS the fuses for the Mk 1 luggage sockets are under the drivers seat fuse no 76 & 78 they are both 15 amp thats the blue colour fuse :D

Thanks for doing that chris, is there another way to get under the seat bar sliding the seat back? I slid back as far as i could and there is a bit or carpet that is moveable and all i could see was the wire from the seat under there

Hi you should find it easier to slide the seat right forward that piece of carpet can come out I think its got velcro on one end you should be able to see in there clearly then

Hi again can you give us more details of the car then ie petrol/diesel month/year model/trim

Hi the only other option according to this manual is fuse no. 8 and should be 30 amp thats on the horizontal row and is the same fuse no as the mk 2 but the mk 2 is 15 amp. The early mk 1 according to this is fuse 35 but that does the front cig lighter aswell which you said is OK.

hi may seem a silly question, are you sure there is no power going to the sockets, have you tested with a meter. and make sure the wires have not pulled off the socket.

There was power going to both of the socket before i stupidly shorted it! I will try this fuse but i dont think its gone as i have looked at them all. Will let you know (again apologies lol)

hi its very unlikely and i dont think it is but if you cant find a fuse gone, and you have no power to the sockets. Their might of been a weakness, in the cable somewhere and its blow en apart at a joint maybe. Just looked at mine and above the relays there are 7 fuses in a row and on mine its a yellow 20amp mines the same year as yours but might be a differantg setup.

I've just had this problem on a '98 Alhambra. There is a 15A blade fuse underneath the drivers seat. I had to look right into the compartment with a torch to spot it. Lying on my stomach, in the back of the car (looking under into the compartment under the drivers seat, there is a single black fuse holder on the right hand side). Replaced the fuse and the 12V sockets in the luggage compartment came back to life! Another job to cross off the never-ending list on held to the fridge door with a magnet.
