hi all i really need someones help !!

 

as i started the engine on my '95 2l ford galaxy glx i noticed the battery light was staying on and as i turned the steering wheel it was like tryin to turn the titanic by hand and to top that off the engine was getting very hot. i have never had any of these problems before with this car so PLEASE help.

 

any help and advise will be very much appreciated as i am on holiday in cornwall with my 4 children

Has your Alternator belt snapped ?

 

This would drive the power steering as well.

 

Possibly also the water pump ( not 100% on this one )....if so your engine would get very hot.

Sounds like tha aux drive belt ( fan belt in old terms ) has snapped.

This happened to my galaxy and it was the a/c compressor pully siezed.

Have a look in the engine bay at the left side of the engine as you look at it.

If it has snapped, make sure each pully turns ok and if so just get another belt and fit it.

Otherwise you need to change the siezed pully.

You need to fit the belt from underneath the car.

thanks alot all you peeps who answerd my call for help checked and belt is broken!!

 

will get a replacement as soon as poss as im in cornwall and everythink shuts down totally till monday lol does any one have a diagram of how the belt goes on or a website i can get this from

This happened to me last year and the air con compressor which is at the very bottom had seized and I had to repace it before I fitted the new belt otherwise it would probably have happened again. Be careful to follow the instructions when re-fitting the belt as the pulley wheels don't all turn the same direction from what I remember.

 

If your compressor has seized and you need to replace it then you should re-claim the refridgerant gas out of the system and then re-charge back into the system once checked for leaks and topped up. You would be best to speak to an air con engineer or take it to a garage for this bit if necessary.

If your aircon compressor pully is u/s and you don't have the time or money to repair it just yet, pretty sure you can fit a belt from a galaxy without the aircon to get you going for now! ;)

I managed to replace just the pully and electro magnet as the compressor was ok.

It was a bit of a pig to get back on, only took a crow bar to get off once the bolt was out.

If it is the compressor and you dont want to fix it, you still need to remove the pully to allow the non a/c belt to fit as i had to untill i fixed it.

Are you sure this the case for the petrol engine ? ;)

yes because of the routing of the shorter belt it will foul the top of the a/c pully.

Unless there is a different 2l petrol engine.

I had an P reg 2l petrol untill i changed for a 1.9 tdi
