stevob321 Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Hi i have just bought a 2004 1.9 Galaxy ghia. The lcd screen between the speedo and rev counter only shows the tempriture, there is no other text displaying regarding fuel consumption etc. The lcd does display a message stating that a door is open if you open a door or the boot, but no information regarding fuel usage, how many miles left in the tank etc? Has anybody had the same problem? Quote
gregers Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 have you pressed the rocker buttons on the right hand stalk,it should toggle between various settings, but iirc the miles left will not unless it has been activated with the relevant software?? Quote

Hi , yes i have tried the rocker buttons however the only information that is displayed on the screen is the temperature, moving the rocker buttons does nothing? nothing displays? If i open a door, it informs me on the screen or if the boot is open, however there is no information displayed at anytime relating to fuel usage, consumption etc???? was wondering if there is a sensor someware that has failed???? acecard Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 try pressing the switch underneath the right stalk which toggles between current journey (shown as 1 on display) and cumulative figures (shown as 2). You need to hold it in for a few seconds and you'll probably trigger your wipers if not gentle. May boot it back to life. Quote

Occasionally the red LED mpg figs etc will not display after starting the engine. To resurrect ours, we just turn engine off/on and 999/1000 the MPG etc returns - vagaries of electronics I guess! mikej Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 This issue is very very common on the dash clocks had this some 5 years back on mine the display eventually dissapears altogether and can only be fixed by replacing clocks with a working unit. It normally starts with any rapid change in temp especially in the summer months when the inside of the car gets very hot, the display is connected via a very fine ribbon cable which is actually glued on, the contacts start coming away and cause intermittant and then total failure as the glue gives. If any of you have a warranty you may want to make a claim now lol... I'm sure there are more than a few of us that have had this experience .mike.. Quote
Mirez Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 You can test this using Vagcom and using the "output tests" option, one of them is a full segment LED test which will light the whole center section. Shameless plug: I still have a few Mk2 clusters available for sale  Quote
zorgman Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 no his display must be working if he can see door open and temp so its down to the car electronics, Quote

frogeye Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Forgive me but I might just try and crowbar my own lcd problem on the back of this thread.... (on my 2001 MK2 V6) I get the right information displayed on the lcd/led, but when I either push the toggle button up or down, or press the trip 1/2 switch on the underside, I will only be 'allowed' one change of display per journey. So on one journey I might be able to change from minutes travelled to mpg, the next journey from mpg to average mpg, the next journey from trip1 to trip2, etc, etc... Weird! Anyone care to suggest a reason/solution for this? Thanks in advance, Frogeye Quote
Mirez Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 There is deffinately some kind of comms check between the stalk and cluster at start up, one thing I noticed when I was doing all the coding is that if you change the country code to something other then UK (and a few others) then the trip computer dissapears and you are left with just the air temp. This is because LHD cars obviously have the stalk on the other side so the comms check fails and the cluster configures itself as no trip installed. Steevo, since you've only just bought the car its possibly had a replacement instrument cluster at some point which hasn't been coded properly to the car - you need someone local with vagcom that can check/recode for you. Other then that... I would suggest both of your issues might be stalk, or stalk wiring, related. Quote
stevob321 Posted March 29, 2010 Author Report Posted March 29, 2010 ALL FIXED - TOOK IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE (HAYDOCK (ST HELENS - MERSEYSIDE) NEAR THE RACE COURSE) WHO IS A VW, AUDI, SEAT AND SKODA SPECIALIST. HE PLUGGED INTO THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT, TESTED THE LCD AND THEN IDENTIFIED THAT CODING WAS MISSING. INPUTED THE MISSING CODING AND ALL WORKS WELL AGAIN. IF ANY ONE WANTS HIS DETAILS EMAIL ME AT stevenbaldwin2@hotmail.com HE ALSO DOES ENGINE REMAPS. THANKS TO EVERYBODY FOR ALL YOUR HELP - IT POINTED ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION Quote
