andy936 Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 hi allbeen looking at past posts today and i have the old LIMP mode syndrone!!its not that bad at the moment and doesnt happen all the time-when it does the old trick off turning off the ignitionand restarting clears problem straight away! the car which is a 52 plate 1.9tdi which has done 80,000 miles seems to run better and limp mode dissapears with a touch of the old redex in the fuel but still i took it to a local diesel specialistand his diag system said that the turbo had been over pressured and went into LIMP mode and i need a new turbo- Quote
Mirez Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 I doubt you need a new turbo, you just need to clean out the crud thats in the current one. Redex and similar will help but far better will be getting it right up to temperature and burning all the muck off - you need that engine oil nice and warm first so drive around for a good 20 minutes first and then use the full rev range for a bit in 2,3 and 4th - repeat a couple of times. Scorpiorefugee Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 (edited) Just a quick thought - Have you had the cam belt changed on schedule. If it's near the end of its life it might be risky giving it a good high rev test. Edited March 18, 2010 by Scorpiorefugee Quote

If it's near the end of its life it might be risky giving it a good high rev test. Hi guys Think I might have had the same thing too. Was going down onto the Motorway on Saturday night and 55mph it was struggling, pedal to the floor etc...... Returned home, connected up vagcom but didn't know where to look for MAF which was my first thought. Checked Module 1 for Engine but no abnormal errors (well one thing about over speeding or something). Went back out down Mway and fine. Sunday same thing coming back, went out early doors was fine, late afternoon being cr@p again. Turned on and off and was fine. Felt fine flying down the motorway :) and touch wood has been ok since. Should I chuck in some redex in the fuel point to see if it improves as well? - or can I just rev the nuts off it once it's warm again? WJUK ps only 54k on my 53 plate as well. Quote
Mirez Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 It'll be in module 1 under fault codes, there is't a code for over speeding though (lol) so whatever code is there you should write down, clear, and then see if comes back. The MAF has some fault codes it can generate however most of the time when it "fails" it won't show up as a direct code. Also 99% of the time when they fail they are done, I've not heard of any failing and then working for a little bit on and off. I would look more at that code first though... Quote
wackojackouk Posted March 19, 2010 Report Posted March 19, 2010 Hi Mirez It was this one 17948 - Vehicle Speed Signal: Signal too HighP1540 - 35-10 - - - Intermittant Have also had this one in the past but not current and always seems to start as it should anyway. 17978 - Engine Start Blocked by ImmobilizerP1570 - 35-10 - - - Intermittant Fingers X was okay again today and I gave it a bit of a thrashing down the M4 for a few miles to clear some cr@p out. Worth chucking in some redex anyway as prob more a Turbo vanes thing then? WJUK Quote
