Hi Again You obviously don’t much about cars or for that matter engines,I will try and explain so that anyone who does not know how a Internal combustion engine works. First of all you have a combustion chamber which you squirt fuel Into like Petrol, which is then fired with a spark, and this getsVery hot, so you then have to cool it, what you do is make holes All round the cylinders and fill with water, and this cools the cylindersBut as the Galaxy engine is so efficient, when you stop putting the engine Under load, then the block cools off, and as if you then coast down a hillThen the temp goes down. This why they put a booster heater on the car to put more heat into the systemBut if it is not working, then as long as the engine is still under load, the engineWill keep hot, but remove the load and will cool off. It just means the Galaxy, etc is a very efficient cooling engine.Radiotwo Quote

Depends how far gone it is, if its semi working then it probably will make the sounds before shutting down (Flame out error) but if its fully broken the ecu will try 3 times to ignite it before disabling it alltogether (Open or Short Circuit) in which case it won't make any noises. big_kev Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 Jamesey, You got a Mk1 or Mk2 ? Quote
TeamGreen Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 One thing I would do is to make sure the fuel pump for the booster heater is ok as the terminals can corrode and break off. I went through the whole process of changing the glow plug, the original turned out to be fine but changed it any way, only to find that it still didn't work and it was then that I discovered that it was the pump was the problem. Dave-G Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 Have you had the car from new? A previous owner might have pulled the fuse.... Not sure which fuse it is though as my Galaxy handbook makes up fuse locations as it goes. Number 12 seems to ring a bell though. Quote
bofus Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 even better than that, my Alhambra's previous owners actually removed the heater to save fuel AND looped the water hose back to the engine! So a second hand heater from fleabay and a new aux water pump...toasty toasty....90 degs temp within 6 mins and 4 miles on even the coldest of mornings! Quote
