It would be advisable to use Vagcom ( or similar ) to diagnose the problem yourself.

This will tell you what the problem is ( most likely faulty sensor or ring ).

See www.ross-tech.com for further info on Vagcom and Ebay for leads.

Sonnym what exactly is the problem?

hi there, just come back after heart attack, operation, convalescence, end of convalescence exams (successful-no heart disease any more).

Thanks for the reply.

Abs light on, and abs doesnt work. The problem it seems is the unit, the ford mechanic in italy said that the unit seemed failed on the vag-com, (no communication) and abs rings were ok.

the unit plus the job would cost 1300 euros!! i probably need to see if the connection is ok. any information , pictures, guidance would be very much appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Check leads going to sensors on wheels they can get damaged when working on suspension

I would try making sure that all connectors to the ABS unit are properly seated and also that the fuses for the ABS unit are ok. My car had the ABS light on and there was no communication with VAG COM. I eventually tracked it down to a blown ABS fuse despite the garage spending quite a lot of time, and my money, trying to fix the problem.

Hi Sonny , glad to see you back hope all is ok with you now.

Would definitely go along with the check the fuse etc on this as the ABS units are pretty solid and extremely unlikely to fail.

However if it has then I would think there are plenty available from old scrapped galaxy, Sharans and Alhambras that can be obtained for a few Euro's.

Also can you confirm your year and model.

Hi There,

Thanks for the reply. Will proceed to check the fuse etc.

Its a LHD 110 bhp 1.9 tdi.

looked in the log book, no help....italian logbooks are pretty unfriendly!!

The car was registered later than it was manufactured as it sat around in the show room in italy, I bought it in 2001 but I think its from the year 2000.

thanks
