mikej Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Hi all, has anyone ever removed the inlet manifold in situ, if so is it a difficult job and more importantly will this require the throttle position sensor or anything else resetting ? any advice welcomemike... ;) Quote
Steve P Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 I've done it on a mark 1 2.3 a couple of times now - funny but it gets easier each time  . You'll need some deep sockets - a small inspection mirror and lots of patience. First time I did there was was lots of cursing! Make sure that you remove the lifting bracket on the left hand side of the head - as you look at the fron of the car. Also you will have to reconnect the oil pressure switch from underneath so make sure that you take the undertary off before you disable the car!! CheersSteve Quote
mikej Posted October 4, 2009 Author Report Posted October 4, 2009 Cheers for reply Steve, did you have to reset the throttle position sensor after at all and how much did you take off before removing the actual manifold, new gaskets required etc ?thanksmike.. Quote
Steve P Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 (edited) Never touched the throttle pos sensor - is yours different? On mine it is bolted onto the throttle body so there is no need to alter any setting. The throttle body has 4 screws attaching it to the inlet manifold - undo those and the body comes away with the tps attached. No gaskets required - there are 4 rubber rings which go between the inlet manifold and the head. These do eventually go hard and start to leak - it would be a good idea to replace them - they're about Edited October 5, 2009 by Steve P Quote
mikej Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 Cheers Steve i think you've answered all the questions mate, i was going to remove the throttle body before removal of the manifold but had heard somewhere that the throttle position sensor had to be reset so that got me thinking ! the gaskets i was refering to were the rubber ones you talk about so i'll order these before i start. Have to admit it looks like an absolute pig of a job due to the poor access from the front unless you have rubber bloody arms and kids hands, still i will give it a go!thanks againmike... Quote
Steve P Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 The screw that holds down the clamp which holds the two flexi pipes from the fuel rail is an absolute **************!. First time I did this there was no way that I could have undone and replaced it without an inspection mirror. The problem is that you jsut can't see the thing and you will struggle to get at it - but it can be done! Steve Quote
mikej Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 Lol inspection mirror it is then ! ;) Quote
