jamesey Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 ive got a mk 2 sharan 115 tdi 6 speed and when driving at 50mph or above it sounds as the drivers wheel is droning just like a wheel bearing noise , also when going round sharp right hand bends i get a slight knocking noise and i can feel it in the steering somthing dosnt feel right at all , ive jacked it up and checked for play in the driveshaft and the wheel on both sides of the car and they all feel fine , what do you think?? does the wheel wobble if the bearing is kapput or not?? Quote
chromedome Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Could be a CV joint. When the steering is on full lock do you get a loud clicking/knocking? Quote
Mary Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 sounds more like a bottom ball joint or track rod end or anti roll bar links. If you have a droaning noise then yes the wheel bearing is kaput they can do that for ages before they go slack. Check em out Hope this helps Mary :D Quote
jamesey Posted April 5, 2009 Author Report Posted April 5, 2009 no idont get any clicking sound on full lock but ive gone out this morning and it doesnt do it , it only does it when it gets warm ?? Quote
jamesey Posted April 5, 2009 Author Report Posted April 5, 2009 no idont get any clicking sound on full lock but ive gone out this morning and it doesnt do it , it only does it when it gets warm ?? just had a good look and ive found the inner cv boot split on the passengers side , its just passed its test at that aswell ive a good mind to get the garage do it that tested it as they could get into trouble for that , its old oil aswell , i wonder if the joint has seized up thats why its grinding?? Quote
chromedome Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Unfortunately the garage will only say that it was ok at the time of the test. An MOT is not a guide as to the condition of the vehicle. I'm just wondering if you could pack some grease in the CV joint and see if your problem goes away. If it does then you will need to replace it. Quote
jamesey Posted April 5, 2009 Author Report Posted April 5, 2009 the cv boot is empty , its still got oily grease in there but the cv boot is ripped so i cant grease it up with out putting a new boot on , the wobble im feeling is the shaft i can look at where the shaft goes in on the gearbox and as soon as i turn the wheel it moves ok back and forth , when i do it on the passenger side there is play cause the box isnt moving , so it sounds like a shaft for me , where can i get one at a resonable price , a guy on fleebat wants Quote
Mary Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 247 spares are quick and you should recieve loads of quotes to compare. TPS (Trade Parts Specialists) there is probably one near you does genuine VW, Seat, Audi, BMW parts and they are cheap. Mary Quote
Mirez Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Jamesy, I bought both front shafts from a company on ebay (which seems to now trade by many different names - note the locations!) they mullered themselves after just a few hundred miles and getting them to replace them was a nightmare. The new ones when they finally arrived did exactly the same thing and it took some legal ramblings to finally get them to refund. Genuine ford parts now on and its been as good as gold since so think twice and avoid at all cost the ebay sellers! Theres also the hassle of physically changing them repeatedly which is time consuming. Quote
