ive got a 1997 sat and today the miss broke down in it i rang my mate and he said check the linkage , i took the battery out and started taking the tray out i took the 4 bolts out and wham the engine nearly fell out , anyway long story short ,one of the linkage cables has come off , is this an easy fix or not to change a cable or is it just a case of putting it back , i cant really see down to the cable area without removing everything , bloody car im sick of car repairs this week :P

there is reports on here somewhere that very good long lasting repairs can be made with the good old tie wrap, and another was to drill thru the ball and socket i think and pass some wire thru to secure it,

save a lot of time,

Sounds like the same problem i had with mine ,easy enough job to do ,just a sod to get to the cable ! go for a cable change if you can, sods law the repair will fail in the middle of nowhere, make sure the new cable ends are securely popped over the ball joints on the gear box levers as they can be a very tight fit, and give the impression of being on , only to pop off a few miles down the road-oh how i laughed! :angry2:
