Ford Galaxy 1.9 Tdi Ghiax

I have a galaxy MK1 with a faulty instrument cluster. The rev counter, diesel gauge and warning lights all work when the handbrake in on. Let if off and all these dials fall to zero. The speedo does not work. There is obviously a an earth fault on the cluster somewhere. I would really like to get another cluster and plug it in to see if it works, if not then the problem is elsewhere. The car is a ghia x 1.9 tdi with two plugs at the rear of the cluster and two LCD displays on each of the speedo and rev counters (5000 revs)

 

If anybody can shed some light, I would be very very grateful or better still lead me to a second hand cluster in working condition the two letters at the end of the part number should be ZH

hi john i am sure that i have read about an earth problem on the cluster for a mk 1 i just cant find it again before u buy a second hand unit try some more searching

About 2 years ago I have change the inst. cluster of my 1.9 TDI Galaxy 1998. It was very easy. I buy a second hand in ebay. The reason was that I discover that I have all the cables to get the trip computer. It was not necessary any configuration. The only problem is that I cannot change the mileage. In the original inst. cluster I do not have the second lcd, but did not have the door leds. Now I have it.

the earth for the dash is in engine compartment on the multi way connector just to the left of battery nice big round connector, had same fault with mine and traced it to the plug i just chopped all wires that went to earth and remade them direct to earth not thru connector. worked first time

I am having almost the same problem has above. My speedo does not work and every time i use the brake the fule gauge drops to zero with warning beep and goes back to normal. i have the nidles checked and everything works fine with computer hooked on. few ppl have said that i need a Instrument Cluster.

could some one please help advise?.
