Alasdair Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Hi everyone, I am new to this forum so forgive me if this post is in the wrong place. I have had two Galaxy's so far and the current one I have is a 2005 MKii 1.9TDI 130bhp Ghia. We are looking to replace a Camping trailer with a caravan and have the following shortlist; Bailey Ranger 620/6, Fleetwood Sonata Symphony and an Adria Adora 612, they are all 6 berth and the Bailey is a twin axial whereas the other two are single axial. Has anyone had experiance towing any of these vans with a Galaxy? and any other comments or advice would also be very welcome. thanks Al. Quote
stevie m Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Hi Al. I haven't got a galaxy now but i have heard that gals are great towing motors. I have a caravan and i tow it with a volvo. Mine is a fleetwood. It's a few years old but it's a twin axle and it feels stable to tow. So if it was me i would lean towards the twin axle bailey. What ever you buy i hope it gives you many happy holidays. Steve Quote
Smarty Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Hi - Check the kerbweight of your motor - should be around 1700Kg. Ensure the MTPLM (maximum technically permitted laden mass)of the caravan you choose is no more than 85% of the cars kerbweight. This then gives you 15% lee-way, as you don't want the tail wagging the dog!!! Quote
Muesli Camel Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 (edited) Hi, I have a 2001 Seat Alhambra 115 TDi SE which tows my 2007 5 berth Pageant Provence perfectly, you would be wise to follow the advice not to go over the 85% rule quoted above. There is a useful free car and caravan match tool on the caravanning 4u website you might find helpful, I know I did. Here is a link http://www.caravanning4u.co.uk/towcars.html You might also want to join the caravan club as you get access to a whole network of good sites, they also do breakdown cover which covers the caravan as well.
