Bigjeeze Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 I am hoping someone on here can advise. My global locking/unlocking is becoming more and more unreliable. Most times I can press the button until the key squeaks and it still won't open. I have changed batteries twice - I have tried pointing it at the door pillars etc but it still seems to have a reducing range. Could it be the sensors in the pillars? Do they degrade? Any ideas gratefully received. Rgds BJ Quote
stevie m Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Does you key need to be re programmed to your door. You could try that i'm sure it is on here somewhere. It only takes a few seconds to do. I had a gal the same year as you and all of a sudden it stop opening the car :angry2: . I had to do that a few times. Hope this helps. Quote
seatkid Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Recently I have started suffering the same problem and seen several other similar posts. As the key led flashes, it shouldnt be the key.... :angry2: .....but I'm not absolutely sure. Normally I strip down any remote control that was playing the goat and clean the button switch surface which always gets caked in body grease (for some inexplicable reason), but with this key this means destroying some lugs that may make it difficult to put it together again.....so.....instead I will disconnect my car battery tomorrow to reset the car electronics as a first step....... I'll let you know how I get on. Quote
gregers Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 had this on an old renault remote, turned out to be a dry solder. Quote

I thought the door pillar heads are the ultrasonic volume sensing alarm Quote
seatkid Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 (edited) I fixed mine! Heres what I did..... Disconnecting the car battery to reboot the electronics made no difference. :) So it was down to disecting the key. I stripped it down entirely (not for the faint hearted) and found the buttons are indeed sealed pcb types so thats not the problem. :( Then I looked and thought...... :angry2: Notice the wear pattern on the (nearly new) battery? - a circle. Obviously the battery is rotating during use.So I sprung the main battery connection (the one on the PCB) up a bit and reassembled. Voila! Works each and every time. Poor battery connection is my conclusion. For those who are interested, here is where the PATS chip is located btw my remote works by wireless, which is the vast majority of Galaxy remotes. Only a few very early Galaxys had real infrared remotes. Edited August 13, 2008 by seatkid Quote
Bigjeeze Posted August 13, 2008 Author Report Posted August 13, 2008 Thnaks all. Yes mine is actually wireless not infra red. Nik - Mine is a MK2 with wireless - so I am not sure where the receivers are - In the front headlining or the pillars ! Seatkid - I will try your method and see what happens. I do have a spare remote key I bought some months ago - it is uncut but I can use the radio unit - and that doesn't appear to help. Quote
NikpV Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 as far as anyone seems to know the wireless aerial is actually in the control unit mounted on the side bulkhead near the drivers or passengers knee cant remember which side - I think there is a diagram for a lhd sharan on the site somewhere... didn't know whether you were refering to your mk2 or the 1997 mk1 which is just on the changeover from Ird to wireless Quote
NikpV Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 ah yes - item 63 in the faq bj interesing SK funnily enough I did the same to my key earlier today to look at the battery number prior to changing it and noticd the same circle which appeared ro be dust/grease - wiped it off and seems better - when I change the battery I will do this to the spring Quote
