Hi,

Just had a engine put in to my 97 galaxy its a ahu engine. Its not to the best performance as it could be or remember it to be, and the ecu was repaired as that gave symptoms has if the MAF was messed up (some one made a loop in the MAF switch, partly burnt out the ecu, I have 1 less of a friend as a result).

All of it is fixed up but few problems on the way as my car got broken into as the mechanics so few things went missing, like the fuses and relays. Most of it replaced by the mechanic.

My turbo is not whistling and I know I need to change the oil and oil filter, I think there is dirt in the turbo as originally a head was going to be put on and due to this the turbo pipe was exposed to the elements.

When i got the car back it was white smoking but I gave it a run on M1 for a few mins and only got speeds to just under 100mph (not saying how much, dont want 3points. lol), wouldnt go any more than that. I've had the old original engine go 105mph, the speedo says 120mhp but never achieved that! but white smoke has cleared after that run.

The clutch was changed so prob needs wearing in, but i been driving it around and one night it was moving nicely almost how it was before but no didnt hear no whistle. There is maybe a slight noise but thats all!

Anyone have advise??????

If you can do 100mph, your turbo is fine (AHU top speed is 99mph).

A properly balanced turbo does not whistle, the most your likely to hear is a hiss from the main air pipework.

A whistling turbo is one that is unbalanced and/or poorly.

Clutches wear out not in!

White smoke is generally due to the timing being out which can be due to number of reasons (bad cambelt change or loose crankshaft pulley being 2 of them). Also could be due to low compression (worn out engine), or faulty injectors/pump.

If you got white smoke, its unlikely to go away. In your case the symptoms look like low compression (a shagged engine).

No i think it ok just at top revs it gives a little smoke, told thats normal. i have had someone look at it they can't see anything wrong with it.

They said it a lovely motor just someone just vandalised my interia.

But il give it a good look over before stevie m starts on his pack of 20!

O no dont tell me you already started the habit but the engine seem fine!lol

Think i'm just one of them guys who wants everything just right!
