Ended up taking the door loom out completely on saturday in order to get my locking working again (not too bad a job, only about an hour all together). The insulation was compromised in 2 of the thick wires (where they pass through the large grommet into the door panel....why not use a softer plastic? there's a hard sharp edge - real bad design). They had large slices through to the copper, and could possibly have shorted together. The main problem was that the red/white wire to the lock solenoid had come adrift from the back of the large connector at the door pillar. It sort of popped back in but was very loose and floppy and not making a solid connection. I THINK the crimp is a single piece going right through to the tab which engages with the otehr half, but without destroying the thing I can't find out. I managed to "bodge" it by jamming the wire down the hole with a matchstick and supergluing it. I doubt it will last long. The question is, does anyone recognise the specific crimp/connector type so I can source some replacement crimps? Failing this, I'll have to replace the door loom. I have not checked with frauds yet but its bound to be pricey.

Thanks,

John

Trouble is not knowing what the specific spade/crimp type is. I suspect its like the Molex mini-fit inside, which means that they are a pain to remove without the special tool. My "bodge" only seems to have held up for a couple of days, and its gone intermittent again. I think I'll extract the pin any way I can and try and solder a wire on before glueing it back in with epoxy.

I have the same problem with the passenger door on my Alhambra. The dificulty is getting the crimps out of the plug. I had ago with several tools and managed to get one out after an hour of struggling but in the end I started to damage the plug.

I did get a brand new VW Sharan front door loom off ebay for

John , firstly i'm not quite sure what you mean regarding the plug crimp so don't shoot me down just yet , a mate of mine came to me years ago and asked me to have a look at his electric window as it was u/s , basically the main steeler wanted to charge him for a new regulator and motor + labour etc without even taking the door panel off ? anyhow it turned out he had a broken wire at the rear of the large plug which i managed to repair using a darning needle of similar diameter and snipped to length . Basically i soldered the wire onto the rear of it and pushed it through the existing crimp , leaving a short length protruding and the door side of the plug just pushed onto it if this makes any sense to you ? It lasted as long as he owned the car a cost less than a penny to do , much better than the hundreds of pounds the dealer wanted to charge anyway. :)

Thanks for the suggestion, but the crimps are not hollow on these, and are buried deep.

Thanks SWFsnapper, but the door looms are handed and i need the driver side.

John,

I don't know what side the loom is for, other then it's a front door loom.

I'll post the pt number here when I get home. Still interested in a solution to the crimp problem, must be a tool out there to remove them???
