insider Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 Your original post doesn't say you've changed the MAF sensor, just unplugged it. The engine won't work perfectly with the MAF sensor disconnected but the fact that you noticed a difference suggests that the sensor is faulty.Put a new MAF sensor in and see what happens. If you still have the problem at idle you can then start looking elsewhere. Quote
blackwolf0578 Posted June 13, 2008 Author Report Posted June 13, 2008 (edited) first of all thanks for your input i plugged it back in today only to get probs again so unplugged it been quoted 70 somethin from frauds 62 from factors any ideas on anywhere cheaper and what is this tiny piece of plastics role its bafflin me cos engine runs ok(ish) without it all help is dutifuly followed to the letter thanks Edited June 13, 2008 by blackwolf0578 Quote
big_kev Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 The MAF sensor will allow your engine to run better ( more power and efficiency ) . However if it is faulty it can have the opposite effect and can adversely affect performance. With the MAF disconnected the engine will still run....but will not be as efficient. You will find a lack of power and performance.....fuel comsumption will rise and power will be down.....try getting above 70mph ! Changing the MAF for a new one will make a world of difference. Also remember to check your tyre pressures...29mpg is very low even without a working MAF. Quote

blackwolf0578 Posted July 9, 2008 Author Report Posted July 9, 2008 OKAY guys and gals :) sorry couldnt resist update on my probbeen to injection specialist who told me maf ok prob engine related i.e. past injector pipes needs to go on DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE to determine prob he says it's misfiring so could be as simple as injector blocked or needs "recalibrating" COST "from 70quid" oh an then the taxmans bit just for him to DIAGNOSE I'm just a taxi driver trying to make ends meet and keep wife and kids in bread and water (water more expensive by the litre than diesel by the way) so i ask again anyone out there near merseyside willing to help poor little me with a vag com please name ur price but be gentle, thanx :) Quote
jkspoff Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) The VAG COM diagnostics is free to download from the web and run, all you need is a lead, they are available on ebay, this will allow you to run a full diagnostics and get the relevant fault codes. Sorry I'm not in your area though. See below links: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/ http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-VAG-COM-409-1-OB...1QQcmdZViewItem Edited July 10, 2008 by jkspoff Quote
Mirez Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Well I would do it for you, but you are a little far away! At 200K a fair bit will be worn by now, injectors being one of them - Clutch being another. If injectors are suspected then you could attempt a diesel additive in the next tank of fuel but I would be thinking about replacing the injectors as a set from a scrapyard car, you could buy new but on a car which is likely to need other bits soon its probably better to keep the cost down. That said before getting new injectors I'd be checking the wiring continuity for the injector itself. I'm concerned about how he's claiming the MAF is ok? If its not been diagnosed then exactly how is this assumption made? A faulty MAF can lead to all manor off vehicle issues so I would again replace that if considered suspect. From past experiences always go with genuine vehicle sensors, patent ones tend to either cause more problems in the long run or only last a short period - again a scrapyard one could be used, probably about Quote
