Michael_H Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 A) I have a Galaxy MK1 1.9 TDi and it is very noisy. I have looked into some solutions and I then somehow became aware that there should be or could be a shield under the engine. Does anybody know if this particular shield is only a splash guard or is it also a noise insulator? My vehicle does not have it fitted, so I am considering the purchase of one if it is indeed a noise insulator. Also, where can I get it cheap apart from the breakers? One more problem: it seems that all Galaxy/Sharan/Alahabra Diesel and Automatic have problems with the auto trasmission. I have had mine rebuilt, and it did not work fine. I was told to replace the gearbox Ecu, I did and it still does not work fine. At times it vibrate so bad between gears or trying to change gear or whatever that the whole dashboard rattles. (It damaged the heater metrix but that's another story). Any ideas? C) Anywhere I can get the A/C pipes apart from FORD? Thanks all for your help Quote
chromedome Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 I'm not sure if the under tray is a noise damper or not. The under tray is very important as it stops rain water hitting the power steering pulley causing it to slip and cause momentary steering failure. Have you checked all the engine mounts as the gearbox mount is prone to shearing. This allows the engine to rock badly and could break the a/c pipes. Quote
Michael_H Posted May 20, 2008 Author Report Posted May 20, 2008 Thank you ChromeDome. What you have told me here is very important because I do experience the power steeering failing at low speds in wet conditions. So, at least I have established that the splash shiled is important. I will have the engine mounts checked tomorrw. A/C pipes broken indeed. Thank you again Quote
tdi90 Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 MK2 engine undersheilds fit the MK1 as well (its what I've got on mine) and yes the proper ones have sound insulation. Beware the new pattern part undertrays for sale on ebay as they dont have the sound insulation. Be prepaired to hunt around for a 2nd hand one though, it took me 3 months to find one, then I had to travel 100 mile round trip to pick it up. If you havent got one already, the plastic engine top cover is insulated as well. Quote
