mikej Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Hi all , popped into my local quick fit today to have the aircon regassed . They informed me that after the test and refill they could not get the temp much lower than when it arrived , approx 14 degrees , its working but has just lost the cold feel if that makes any sense and is no more useful than a open window . I know its not as cold as it was and they tell me its too warm but it won't go any colder and they don,t know why ???? Anyone an expert or any ideas , apparently no leaks detected and the correct amount of gas . How cold should it be and is it possible i have a knackered component ???thanksmike..... Quote
cowboyasterix Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Inside vents the best ~ +1, +2`C But about +3 to +5 is not too bad. After regassed(KwikFit) in my old Mk1 Mondeo-last year I had +2`C in vents. Quote
stevie m Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 (edited) There must be a leak somewhere. That just seems far to warm to me. I went to a garage to get mine regased and they said everything was working ok. I got it home left it over night then went to work the next day. On my way back from work i used the aircon. Blooming thing did not work it was too warm. There was a leak and they would have seen that because i paid extra for a dye to be put in that shows up if you use ultra violet light. In the end they denied there was a leak when they had it and i lost my money (72 quid). Thats my moan over ;) . You can't get much thicker than a kwik-fit fitter  . Aircon is a common problem so somneone will be able to help more. Edited April 23, 2008 by stevie m Quote
Bigjeeze Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 If there is a leak you will have to find and fix it before going on. Do a search there is a huge amount of posts on Air Con on this site - If you have a MK2 check the condenser - look for the pics which show you how to spot the leak that hardly any garages are able to find. Good luck Quote
mikej Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 Thanks gents for the replys , i was actually thinking along the lines of the condensor leaking but was unsure of the symptoms this would cause , the garage assured me there was very little if any loss of gas hence this kind of threw me . Am i right in thinking the less gas in the system the less likely it is to reach the required temp ???? can anyone offer some advice on were to purchase a condenser , know of any aftermarket suppliers etcthanks again Quote

(german swedish french) I'm not 100% sure they will have one but if you ring a local branch they are pretty helpful and may point you in the wrong direction. Then there's ebay or a ford breakers. I wouldn't try frauds they will rip you off. Vw might be cheaper anyway as they are for most things i hear. Edited April 23, 2008 by stevie m Quote
MrT Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 You could try Compressortech. I bought a remanufactured (as opposed to reconditioned) compressor (due to a broken clutch) for Quote
Shabazmo Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Sounds as though your compressor is faulty. Make sure you go to an aircon expert.. There are too many aircon people around who know nothing other than how to regas the system. An expert will have fixed many galaxy's and know their common faults. I will warn you that it may cost you a grand if the compressor has brocken up contaminated the systemRegards Quote
