bj2004 Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 the only things i wanted that wernt on my lx was parking sensors and cruise control and i have fitted these myself for under Quote
jkspoff Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Just to let everyone know, I've finally bought a new Galaxy , the spec is as follows: Silver, Tdi 130BHP, 03 Plate, 57k on the clock I'm so happy Picked it up from a little garage outside Bedford, and they're gunna be doing the big 60k service which is included in the price..and i'm gunna get a full valet done Picking it up next week sometime, I can't wait :D Sounds similar to the one I just got, don't forget they need a new timing belt at 60k. The 130bhp definately seems a lot pokier than the old 115bhp I used to have, seems like it pulls harder at lower revs. I am well pleased with my return to Galaxy ownership. Now all I need to do is get shut of the ST220 ! Quote

Nimplay Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Congrats. I just bought one to and have to say it's my best car ever, ideal for long journeys. :19: Quote
mk2vr6 Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Congrats. I just bought one to and have to say it's my best car ever, ideal for long journeys. :19: yep especially with the VR6 lump in it :19: but then again the 2.7 CRD just eats the miles and still gives the same MPG as the VR :19: Quote

freers Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 Hi guys I am hoping to join the club, and have just viewed an 03 plate galaxy with only 31k on the clock, its a 1.9 tdi Ghia 110bhp and the guy is after Quote
davewill Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 Freers It wont be a 110 it will be a 115 or 130. Look at the tdi badge on the back. If 115, its silver with a red edge, if 130 its all red On this model the cam belt will need changing at 40000 that will set you back Quote
gregers Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 er depending on when the car was registered,ie early part or latter part of 2003 it will not need the cam belt changed until 60k(DO A SEARCH ON HERE FOR CAM BELTS),something that you will not be able to check if its working or not is the rear booster heater(ITS FAR TO HOT NOW)as dave says it will either be a 115/or 130 bhp, negotiate over the tyres, doubtful whether your be able to tell if the drive shafts need replacing but as mentioned bear this in mind?if in doubt take a decent mechanic with you to give the car a good going over,BUT IF ITS FROM A GARAGE get these things checked and make sure you get some sort of warranty with it. OH and make sure you get 2 keys with it,COZ THERE BLOODY EXPENSIVE. HTH. Quote
freers Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 Hey, thanks very much guys, it is in fact owned by the local garage owner (not dealer, just mechanic), so although I haven't seen the history (yet) am fairly happy cos i know the owner. New cambelt doesn't worry me, not sure the wife will manage 5k miles a year! what are the symptoms/price for a driveshaft replacement? Is Quote
gregers Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 check out parkers for a guide on the price. Quote
freers Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 Thanks gregers, Price seems a bit high, but i'm sure there is room for manouvre! Thinking about it, as it's 5 years old it's due a cambelt change anyhow. Incidentally, the car belongs to the owner of the local garage, so may have some bargaining to do to make the most of his mechanics!! btw, are galaxy's more prone to problems than any other car in the world, or is it just that i'm looking for problems to put me off?!?!? davewill Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 Freers, the Galaxy is a great car in many dimensions, however it also has many faults that have been there since "day 1" and that Frauds should have revised and put right :) On the good side, i have transported everything from a kids double bunk bed, a 42U Computer Rack, 200 floor tiles, 30 600 x 600 Garden Slabs, numerous kids bikes, a Garden rotovator, a bath, a garden patio set and 7 people all with suitcases (but not all at the same time) ;) On the bad side i have experienced the inherent problems that the Galaxy "hides" Drive Shaft FailureAir Con leakageGear selector problemsFallen off impellorBrake switch failure But overall i still love mine, for the practicality, the feeling of being "taller" than most other vehicles and the ease of drivingMy wife has a BMW 1 Series and still says the Galaxy is easier to park If you buy this one, hope you enjoy it, and join the crowd on here  I met Bleeno through this site, and he's a damn good chap :D Quote
