can anyone help we have a problem recently we had both front door locks break (or broken for us)

we have replaced the drivers door handle etc as supplied from ford now our problem central locking not working except that when locking the drivers door it also locks the petrol cap but none of the other doors or boot (when the locks were broken we only had access to the car through the boot

which was the only door that we could unlock ,then crawling through the car to manually open the other doors from the inside) now whats happened is that although the new drivers lock works perfectly our boot wont lock at all also and most intriging is that when we go through the motions of unlocking the boot with the key (and remember that it is not actually locked ) then this unlocks the drivers door and petrol cap ) how can we lock our boot manually for security is this a electric fault a lock fault or is it to do with the keys ie the boot key is original whereas the drivers door key is a new one as supplied with the lock .we have examined the boot lock and if we push it by hand it locks (boot open at the time ) and unlocks with the key in the boot but will not lock when we close the boot and of course we cannot lock the bootlock with the key HELP

Confused a bit???? ........... This sounds like the boot lock solenoid isn't operating and the most common cause for this is the tailgate wiring. Open the boot and locate the rubber wiring covers at the top corners. Carefully expose the wiring by manipulating the rubber protection covers and look for broken / chaffed wires. Hopefully you will find a broken wire.

It sounds like you've got same problem as boot, in drivers door, ie broken wires in rubber gaiter or possibly the 3 pin multi plug on lock mechanism isn't connected correctly.

PS do you still have the old door locks??? if so you could just swap the key barrels within the handle and hence still use one key for all doors and ign.

iirc try turning the rear lock 90 degrees that might get your rear lock working aswell as trying to find the various broken wires in the doors.

out snows all I need right now

shall let you know if what you suggest works

anyone else have any help to give on this point

could it be that my new key is not coded although ford said that it doesnt need coding

wow I'm digging up dragons now

do you mean the mechanism if so then ive tried that by putting a screwdriver into the slot and going through the motions of locking it with the door open then using the key to unlock it but I might be misunderstanding what you mean advise please

i seem to remember with the galaxys you can stop the rear door opening with central locking by turning it the opposite way.

you mean strip off the door remove the lock and replace it in the opposite orientation

cant do it now but it might be worth a try in the light of day shall need to empty car out now and get in out of this weather its not doing my old bones any good

does anyone have any other ideas that I can try out in the morning if my car is still at the door

what what this is a nice area you know

one lives in hope

no its possible to remove the rear hatch from the control of the central locking system and only operate the lock manually! this is done by sticking the key in the lock and turning it in one direction and then removeing the key...it's in the user hand book somewhere which I no longer have, so your on your own there I'm afraid

OK now I'm suitably wet again just been out and tried that when I turned thge key in the opposite direction

it opened the passengers window something wierd there eh well Ill get myself warmed up again

anyone got any more probable solutions HELP

ah possibly global opening(never tried from boot) - if so it does show you have some wiring problems - breaks in looms in the door boots or even shorts where the insulation is shot

The C/L system has a simple circuit that operates drivers door (DD), tailgate (TG)and petrol flap(PF) motors directly (via c/l module) from drivers door/ tailgate.

Any signal from DD/TG should un/lock these three. The signal is then relayed to the Passenger doors (PD).

There are three wires that control these signals and are on DD TG and front PD, they are set, reset and ground. If on the DD the set wire is broken then you can only dead/lock the DD via the TG or FPD.

This is where it gets confusing LOL,

There are wires which control the actions of the motors in every door but if there are any broken in DD then the system is designed to prevent dead-locking all the doors, and even locking. However if a break occurs on deadlock signal wire after closing DD then your stuffed BIG TIME.

I guess what I'm trying to say is get the wires in the DD gaiter checked, be aware that they can look ok but the cores maybe broken inside and you may even get intermittent continuity depending on whether door is open/closed.

Global close/open (windows opening/closing) works when key is held in un/lock position for a second in any of the locks.

No coding/chip/transponder is required to open doors via the lock, only for ign.

If only passenger window opened then you defo have broken wires as it should've opened all electric windows simultaneously.

I shall get to it first thing in the morning its fair hissing here and dark to boot

shall let you know how I get on

thanks very much for your input so far

and that applies to all who have helped

ok following all the info that all have contributed

have had the door gators off and checked the wiring and apart from 2 that were cracked

and the one that was broken in the boot can find no others

followed the wiring to the boot and checked the wiring

inside the panel in the boot found lots of plugs etc for lights etc

amongst these was a white cliplock on the wiring

cables coloured

red/white

grey

green/black

red/orange

brown/white

now on my travels through the wiring these coloured cables seemed to follow the flow

so i disconected this clip

AND LOW AND BEHOLD

my boot now locks -----and I can unlock it with the key

effectively making it manual

so for all those that want a manual bootlock go for it

have checked rear washer wiper it works hazard lights ok

parking lights ok

cant try reverse till wonder women arrives

shall update then

Thank to all gods concerned in the bright sunny day here today

for all the assistance and ideas from all concerned

I thank you

unless its an auto you can check the operation of the reversing lights, stick it in reverse, switch on the ignition but dont start the engine and walk round the back to see if they light up? job done, one more thing done before she gets in and even more brownie points :angry2:

just checked post now and sod it she who must be came home at 4pm so she did the checking and started off by telling me that one of our foglamps wasn't working

apart from that reverse light work fine and all seems to be ok

and apart from not having the boot centrally lock its avoided the fraud squad or a loom job

happiness is

time for the sundowner and a quiet cigar whilst i'm still in her good books

would any one care to join me in a glass of bowmore perhaps even 2
