mk2vr6 Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 chemical reaction/corrosion due the battery acid! remove the battery and use a wire, water and baking soda solution to the clean it all off, allow it dry, use a good anti rust solution and repaint the tray with a good coat of hamerite etc Quote
mustie Posted March 2, 2008 Author Report Posted March 2, 2008 Thankyou will do it later today :P  Quote

stevie m Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 You should wear Acid proof gloves rubber apron and goggles ! Sulphuric acid not nice to get in your eyes or on your skin ! . ( Bet you can't tell i'm involved with health & safety :P ) Quote
mustie Posted March 2, 2008 Author Report Posted March 2, 2008 I changed the battery as the old battery was 5 years old and wouldnt hold a charge Quote
B61 Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 Hi,I had a similar acid/leaking problem. When cleaning everything with a lot of water and soda a lot of water/soda/acid dripped down, underneath the battery platform and eventually it leaked out from the bottom of the car. I used tons of water to rince but I'm still affraid taht everything below teh battery palform will now start rusting...... any advice? Is that a problem?Bruno-Belgium Quote
stevie m Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 If you neutralised the acid then it should not be a problem (i would think) and you did say that you rinsed it with plenty of water. Quote
