merlin100 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Hi all, great site.I have an 02 115tdi. Two questions really - after switching off the ignition there is a whining sound from the rear. Never heard it on anything else before so does anyone know what it is?Also, what is the small outlet pipe adjacent to the exhaust? Sometimes it gives off considerable smoke and there is a very strong smell of diesel. Is it faulty? Quote
mk2vr6 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 it's the......... nope lost interest! some one else can explain, I'm off to bed :P Quote
stevie m Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 (edited) The both questions put a search in for aux heater or booster heater. Pull number 12 fuse to stop the smoke. If you want to fix it yourself ( You will find that here too.) Try getting a glowplug from here or here. Thats if your willing to see if it fixes it. Fords Edited February 15, 2008 by stevie m Quote
merlin100 Posted February 15, 2008 Author Report Posted February 15, 2008 Many thanks Stevie m. Is this aux heater necessary, I mean, what des it actually do? Will search for it now. Again, thanks Quote
gregers Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 yes its necessary,it gets the temperature up quicker thus allowing the occupants to have heat in the car,but have a good read up of the thousands of posts on the subject. Quote
merlin100 Posted February 16, 2008 Author Report Posted February 16, 2008 Cheers for info Stevie m. Hi gregers, just an observation. One thing I notice about the Galaxy is that it takes an awful long time for the heaters to throw any warmth out anyway - its been like this since I got it last July, but only started smoking and smelling for around a month now. If I remove fuse 12 as Stevie has suggested, will this put any stress on other parts of the heating system/engine?Just thinking of it as a temporary measure till I can get hold of a glow plug ( if it is that). But for the price of them, I may as well try it first. Thanks all. Quote
gregers Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 the reason it takes time to heat up is because your booster heater is not working correctly when working it will take approx 5mins to get good heat in the car, pull the fuse to stop it trying to work there is a lot of gals etc running round without their booster heaters working,so in your case it looks like it could just be a glowplug replacement?to get yours working correctly again,BUT be prepared it could be other things wrong with the booster,as other posts suggest, try the glow plug 1st as this is the cheapest option then take it from there. merlin100 Posted February 18, 2008 Author Report Posted February 18, 2008 Thanks for all the help guys. Will pull fuse 12 for now. Just wondering, my Gal usually takes around 10 minutes to get any decent heat anyway. So Im assuming pulling the fuse wont make any diference? Quote
