searcher Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 Just the last week - 10 days i have noticed the Ally not starting as it should. When the engine is warm and been stood an hour or so and you go to restart it, it fires up fine but revs very hard to about 4000 rpm as if the throtle is pushed down and then back down again.First couple of times it done it, it caught me out but now i switch it back off before it gets chance to rev too hard. This morning i had to switch it off twice so i am wondering if its getting worse. It doesnt do it every time.I doesnt do it when the engine is cold only warm after being stood.Any ideas folks as to what the problem could be. Many thanks Adrian. Quote

searcher Posted February 6, 2008 Author Report Posted February 6, 2008 Oh i will do, its just nice to have an idea in my head before they try to bull**** their way out of paying for it. Any ideas folks Adrian. Quote
BrianAll Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 Idea: MAF sensor. Disconnect the lead going into the sensor at the side of the air cleaner (about 10 o'clock position as you look into engine bay). Start the engine, if high revving has stopped you're on the right track. For further MAF info, read the extensive postings on the topic elsewhere on this great technical forum. Cheers, Brian Quote
stevie m Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 Black fuse box by the battery ? The alternator lead melting it ? I know that if the the first connecton is burnt through this causes high engine revs when idling. That happened to me try that as an idea mate. Quote
Manxman Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Check the temp sensor. Is the needle moving off zero when engine warm? Sometimes cleaning the connection will get it working again.. The sensor is located in the hose below the fuel filter and to the rear corner of the engine. Quote
searcher Posted February 8, 2008 Author Report Posted February 8, 2008 Ok folks, thanks for the replies. Will have a look on the weekend. It hasnt done it for a couple of days so maybe ive frightened it by posting on here  Keep those ideas coming. Adrian. Quote

pineman Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 hi when i purchased my galaxy it reved up high when hot about 2.500 revs and when it was in a traffic jam went up to 3.000 revs i replaced the maff sensor no different so i had som body put it on a tester it came up with the throttle idle vaulve i got a second hand one of these the problem has been fixed when i start up from cold it revs up at 1100 and when warm it revs up at 900 cheers john Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 I would go with it being a temp sensor, coolant or air. Diagnostic check will tell which one. Classic symptom for coolant is that gauge will start to move then drop back to cold. If it is the coolant sensor, make sure that the same colour sensor goes in as came out, or it won't cure the problem and gauge will not read correctly. I have a 'blue' sensor available that I bought as that is what VW and Ford said it should have, until a VW tech told me must do like for like (grey). My no good to me blue sensor was in the engine for 3 days. Quote
searcher Posted March 11, 2008 Author Report Posted March 11, 2008 Thanks for the replies folks but TOUCH WOOD it hasnt done it for a couple of weeks now so maybe the gremlin has moved out :o Quote
