2003 Galaxy, semi auto 2.3

This has probably been asked, one of my main front lamps, ( bulb ) have blown.

I don't have a manual, do I need to remove headlight fitting to replace lamp, how do I do this please?

What product code/type do I ask for?

Is it possible to swap the lamps for brighter ones without increasing the wattage output, maybe those lights that appear blue, what should I be asking for?

Hello Airrex7

i think all you need to do is take the cover off from the back of the light, and i think you just twist it off then you can get at the lamp

if it's the left hand side fused, switch the engine on, and turn the steering wheel to the right. If RHS, then do the opposite.

Now look at the wheel arch, you should see a flap which gives you access to the main headlight bulb. Beware, you might scratch your knuckles, space is limited so try someone with small hands.

I think youll find that you can only change the side light bulbs through the wheel arch flaps not the main bulbs.

Simple answer is

Big hands = take the unit out

Small Hands = remove cover off the back of the unit to gain access to the bulbs

Thank you every one who has replied, er--- massive hands, so is it simply a question of lifting the bonnet and removing retaining bolts so as to remove headlight units or is there more to it?

Can anyone answer my original question as to what type of lamp I need and is it possible to swap to those brighter blue lamps?

Bulbs are h7, Yes you can swap to blue ones but they are not always brighter. You do not need to remove the headlight. My hands are not that small and i got in the its too easy a job to warrant removing it. The bulb takes a few mins to do

Look here for bulbs http://www.powerbulbs.com/product_detail.asp?prod=81

I found it is easier to remove the whole light assembly.

Remove top two screws.

Deep down the side of the light nearest the wing is a screw. You will need a long driver to reach it and a torch to see it. DO NOT REMOVE the screw just slacken off a couple of turns. On the other side of the lamp is another bottom fixing, once again DO NOT REMOVE the screw.

The light assembly will now be loose. Put a piece of thin card between the bottom of the light assembly and the bumper, this should prevent the bottom fixings scratching the bumper.

Wriggle the unit around and it will come out. Fitting is a reversal of what you just did. Should take you no longer than 10 minutes per side. Most of the time will be spent trying to find the screw near the wing.

Galaxy 03, 2.3 Petrol

Hello,

Having purchased the lamps and following Chromedomes description I thought I would change the lamps today.

Well, from the photos, the two top screws, ( A ) are obvious and the bottom screw to the right of the headlight, ( B ), recessed but easily got at but where, using photo A is the other bottom fixing to the left of the headlight, I know I will need a long driver but can I find where to put the driver, can I heck, I looked with a torch, I can't find it.

Can anyone help?
