zorgman Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 the saga goes on.d3wz heater with new uprated plug. repaired the pump wiring and it tries to start up, fan starts going and winds up, white smoke starts to come out along with drips of diesel and so it goes on in cycles but never fires up proper. thought well give it a chance but 3 days on and its still doing it.any thoughts why its doing this and has anyone else had the fault the same. Beyond Help? Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Are the drips of fuel coming out the exhaust? If so have you tried emptying it out? Quote
zorgman Posted January 24, 2008 Author Report Posted January 24, 2008 done that have got the exhaust removed, had an airline into it but still no joy. im not sure but its if there was too much fuel going into it Quote
magic Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 This is the first time I have given any advice on this site but after reading about your problem I feel compelled to reply.I had the same problem with a DW5s and after renewing the glow plug with both a standard and an upgraded one,re-setting the fault codes checking fuel delivery, ect, ect it still tried to start dripped out fuel smoked and then went to lockout till the next time. Finally I renewed the whole unit which worked perfectly and stripped the old unit down,on doing so i found oxidisation in one of the cut out airways between the gasket and burner face ,(I can only asume the heater had not worked for a while) which would have been preventing enough air entering the burner .a new gasket and clean up would probably be the answer. Hope this does the trick. Quote
zorgman Posted January 25, 2008 Author Report Posted January 25, 2008 himany thanks for that very informative reply. ill have a good check on the unit see if thats whats going on.as it happens when i did the plug i did notice that it must have been along time since it had worked as there was no carbon in the exhaust just oxidised ali, so no doubt that the rest of the unit has this inside.ill rip it off when i get a chance and give it a good going over once ive got hold of the gaskets for it. pete white Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 hi, could be the coolant run on pump as mine had similar symptoms but without the smoke. after switching off the engine listen out for a faint whirring noise coming from the middle of the scuttle area. or check from the engine bay, the pump is near the fuel filter. it should run on for a couple of mins after switching engine off. Stevoo Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Its times like this im glad i have a petrol, none of this aux diesel heater. causes ppl so many problems. Why they didnt put a heater matrix and fan blower like the petrol models i dont know!! Quote
zorgman Posted February 1, 2008 Author Report Posted February 1, 2008 the diesel has the same heater blower system in the rear as petrol, but under the car connected to the water pipes is a water heater that helps heat the water up hence petrol has to wait for the engine to supply heat in the front and rear wereas the diesel uses the enging and the aux heater to give warm toes ie 2-3 mins to full temp as opposed to 10 mins upwards on petrol.the aux heater is there as the engine is far far more effiecient than converting fuel to power Quote
lazyb5 Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 Crikey zorgman mine takes 10 mins to warm up and i already replaced the glowplug inthe aux heater guess i need to look at the water pump. I never did change the brushes in it :16: Quote

gregers Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 (edited) Crikey zorgman mine takes 10 mins to warm up and i already replaced the glowplug inthe aux heater guess i need to look at the water pump. gregers Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 yeah think so,i also hear the booster heater winding down. Quote
lazyb5 Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Ah... i was hoping that with a new pump it would reduce the warm up cause like you i`m about 10mins before its warm. I need to do it cause it hasnt worked at all since about Nov and i just replaced the glowplug in the aux heater and i can hear it stoping and starting. Quote
gregers Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 i wonder how long other peeps cars take to warm up,if the consensus is about 10 mins then WERE ALL RIGHT  . Quote
