phil_01 Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 :) the wiper linkage and motor are working as i have taken them out and tested them, but the wipers will not move. when pulling the wiper up there vertical persition they will return to park, but they will not move back to vertical. i have changed the fuse, linkage, motor and i still have the same problem. when went to ford dealers they had no clue. they said for me to go to my vw garage. the only thing i can think is wrong is the relay but the vw machanic said that they dont need replacing. please can anyone help. need help asp. :D Quote
phil_01 Posted January 10, 2008 Author Report Posted January 10, 2008 for all those people that have the same problem. after much pulling of hair and screeming at every one and spending loads of money on a motor, relay, and linkage. we have found a solusion. we phoned an auto electrition and they have informed us that it is the ecu module that is shorting out. and they are very dear. good luck to all those that have the same problem hope this will help. Rusty Nail Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Hi there Can I ask two questions, 1) Which vehicle is it2) Do any of the wipers work at all? I had a problem where the wipers refused to work at all up front or the rear, but then the rear would work if you used the rear washer. This turned out to be a simple fuse problem. There are two different fuses in the fuse board that control the wipers, and of course it was the second less obvious one. The two you need to look at (on a Mk II Gal) are 24 and 33Fuse 24 is the main wiper power, Fuse 33 supplies the switch to control the wiper ecu. If these two are both OK then sorry but I cannot help you. Good luck Quote

"Blame the ECU" is the usual excuse if an electrical problem can't be diagnosedIt's possible for ecu to short, but not very likely... if you go down that road ensure its on a "no fix, no bill" basis!!! There is no direct involvement between wash wipe circuit and ecu, (washer bottle low warning is possibly the only one). If the wipers are returning to a park position it suggests a problem within the wash wipe circuit: fuses (dependent on model there are several involved as Rusty Nail suggests), Relays (which my money would be on) or stalk (worn/corroded contacts). It would help if you put some car details in signature/post. Then I'll decipher the relevant wiring diagram and hopefully point you in right direction. Quote
phil_01 Posted January 11, 2008 Author Report Posted January 11, 2008 thanks for replies, our galaxy model is a GLX p reg 18/12/96 what fuses are you talking about because we have two books that give us different fuse numbers please could you send me a diagram of the fuse numbers to my email address which is mother_1234@hotmail.co.uk ps i am very greatfull you are spending time in giving me information. MadBaz Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Right here goes...Fuse 4 20amp is the supply for the rear wiper relay and rear motor.Fuse 5 10amp is for the wash wipe stalk and supply to intermittent relay.Fuse 24 is for front wiper relay and supplies wiper motor, it is immediately to the right of K175 on the bottom of the vertical row of four fuses. K11 intermittent wiper relay, bottom row 2nd from left.K64 rear wiper relay, above K11.K175 is the front wiper relay, top row 3rd from left. Can I ask, does the rear wash/wipe work? and does anything work on the front other than wipers returning to park after being forced? Quote
phil_01 Posted January 12, 2008 Author Report Posted January 12, 2008 the rear wiper/washer work. the front washer works. we put a wire from the motor to a 12volt power unit and the motor works. we tested the feeds going to the motor and there is power. when we pulled the stalk down and in posision 2 at first the motor was working but now we have nothing at all from the posisions we put the stalk in. is there any whey we could by pass the box or ecu in order to test the other part of the system. phil_01 Posted January 12, 2008 Author Report Posted January 12, 2008 PROBLEM SOLVED THANKS TO ALL THAT HAVE HELPED after every thing we did we decided to pay thirty five pounds to an auto electrition and have it looked at. he checked all conections and circuits to do with the wipers he found that the relay number 53 on our galaxy or R15 or K175, the relay itself was working but the socket which the relay goes into was not making a full conection. the conectors with in the socket was spread to wide which made no contact with the relay.  :D :D Quote
cotic Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Just found this thread when I had similar problem and Rusty Nail's tip on fuse 33 solved my problem: many, many thanks Quote
Marge Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Hi there. I'm also having a problem with non-working front wipers on my 1996/P Galaxy. The rear wash/wipe works fine, the front wash works, but the wipers simply do not budge. Bearing in mind the advice given above, we tested all the relays with '53' on them (five in total, 3 in the box under the bonnet, 2 in the box under the driver's-side dash) and they all apear to be working okay. The fuse that claims to be for the intermittent front-wiper (no. 5) under the dash is fine too. The single 30A fuse in the box uder the bonnet seems to have blown (can anyone tell me what this fuse is for, 'cos Haynes isn't telling me much), but trying a replacement makes no difference to the wipers. Everything else electrical appears to be working fine. The car has been fine since I got it, but typically has a problem now that the MOT is due! Any advice much appreciated. Quote
