McQ Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 I have successfully removed 3 of my 4 spark plugs, but the 4th one is proving to be a much more stubborn challenge. I have tried WD40 , cold engine, slightly warm engine, but no luck. I have been using a t bar wrench and I am possibly thinking, that I may get some joy with a socket wrench (if I can find the right size attachment for it). Has anybody got any suggestions/tricks/tips for getting a stuck plug out? Quote
Smilge Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 McQ ......... sounds like you're doing the right thing with the WD40. The plug socket, extension bar and ratchet handle with the trolley jack handle over the ratchet handle is my way of getting them out if they're seized in. What I do is to tighten slightly and then untighten them in one swift movement. Hasn't failed yet. Quote
McQ Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 Thanks for the tip, I will try that soon. I may be able to get my hands on a wrench from a garage (it will be bigger than mine so I can get better leverage). Heres hoping...I am fixated on this plug now as my engine is sounding a bit rough. It will probably be clean and I will have to start looking at something else  Quote
stevie m Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 The plug socket, extension bar with torque wrench maybe ? Quote
McQ Posted January 11, 2008 Author Report Posted January 11, 2008 borrowed socket set from friend and tried about 1 hour after driving, apparently the metals cool at different rates so it is easier. So good news is that the plug came out..bad news is that while not looking new it was clean. My engine sounds a bit throaty, especially when cold or under pressure. I have heard all the stuff about petrol additives but I am going to REDEX it(unless anybody else has a better make they would recommend.) the situation started when I got VERY low on fuel so I am guessing I have sucked up some rubbish into the system somewhere. Hoping a spell with the red stuff will sort it out...or not  Quote
