johnkg Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Long story but just bought a 2007 radio cassette to replace the one which the garage is 'fixing' (can't find code) When I attach the new radio I get no power on display or anything that looks like its powering up. All other lights/devices on the Gal seem to work fine so I assume its not a fuse Original radio was a 2007R and this one is just a 2007 but the connectors all seem identical. Is this just a duff radio? ps. dreaded 97/98 Gal with manual that says the fuses are in one place whilst the fuse panel says in another. Quote
johnkg Posted January 7, 2008 Author Report Posted January 7, 2008 So far... 1. Attached all three connectors to back of radio and pressed POWER nothing 2. Tried pressing SELECT then POWER and vice versa nothing 3. Later tried with just the power(?) connector attached and left it for an hour before trying 1 and 2 again nothing Is there any other way I can test the radio (maybe the pin-outs) or connector plug to see if it's alive? Is there a fuse/relay to check on the car itself? Previous owner swears the radio was working before it was posted. Thanks in advance. Quote
mumof4 Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 sometimes radios dont like to travel very well, and..if i assume you got it from ebay, how well was it packaged? if you cant get it to work, then id send it back. your previous radio, is all thats wrong with it is that you dont have the keycode? if that is the case, it is quite simple for a ford garage to find out the code for you! big_kev Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Are you sure its not just the fuse. Is this your fuse layout... http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=14257 Quote
stevie m Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 If the problem is only the keycode as mumof4 says speak to frauds they will sort it. If at the end of the day it cost you for it, then i wouldn't have thought it would be less than the cost of a new radio. Quote
Beyond Help? Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 (edited) Is the original radio a Ford branded one for example an 'M' series? Look at the serial number does it start with a letter M? Edited January 8, 2008 by Beyond Help? Quote
johnkg Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 (edited) Thanks for your help everyone, things have moved on a bit: This is the tale of what happened: 1. Ford replaced the battery and in doing so cut the power to the radio. They tried the code on their system but it did not work 2. Phoned me to tell me what they had done and did I have the code? I did not have the code (never have) so they told me they would sent it off to get the code 'reset' 3. Two weeks later they phoned to tell me the radio had come back (with a charge of Edited January 8, 2008 by johnkg Quote
mumof4 Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 id def kick up a stink over the 60 quid.did they tell you how much it would cost when they said they were going to send it away? Quote
Beyond Help? Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 It is an M series and as you have been round here for a bit I could have given you the code for free...... NOTE TO EVERYONE: I only ever offer this, if you ask you really really don't get! Members with over 50 posts can try PMing me though! lol! Quote
johnkg Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 id def kick up a stink over the 60 quid.did they tell you how much it would cost when they said they were going to send it away? No they didn't, and the fact that it came back still broken is the bit that hacked me off (and sent me off on my wild goose chase). If they had fixed then at least I'd have taken it on the chin... mumof4 Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 careful hun, we dont advocate giving out radio codes on the forum, i know you have said via pm, and that is fine, but id rather you didnt advertise the fact that you can do it. It is an M series and as you have been round here for a bit I could have given you the code for free...... NOTE TO EVERYONE: I only ever offer this, if you ask you really really don't get! johnkg Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 It is an M series and as you have been round here for a bit I could have given you the code for free...... cheers Beyond, As part of my 'goose chase' I managed to get hold of the serial code decoder software but Fraud have my radio. Also of course Fraud were telling me that my radio was in some way suspect as the code they had did not work. Prehaps I should get the serial from the radio and check it with the decoder and see if it matches the code they now have. Quote
Beyond Help? Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 I would. If it does not then the shop has recoded it. But I doubt it. Ford try to use the CAN bus to recover the radio information from the radio and you car does not have CAN bus! Quote
johnkg Posted January 10, 2008 Author Report Posted January 10, 2008 Took it along today and they put in the radio and the code and it all works AND I was not charged for any of it!!! So that makes me very happy. The Radio had a L------ serial no. which is certainly not what I was expecting. Would this perhaps have a bearing on why the Ebay Radio (that was an M-----) did not work? Thanks again all! Quote
