amsoil Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 I just went to collect my TDI Ghia X after repair and see that the battery appears to have shrunk down to a 61AH one. I have been onto Daganham Ford but they are unable to identify a battery for a 99 Ghia X tdi (auto if it makes a difference) Checked all the manuals and searche the forum but no joy. Any nice person assist here? I remember it had a really large (and expensive jobby with handles on it..... Quote
sanjsanj Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 call halfrauds. They have data for all cars, right down to its trim level (ghia, zetec etc). if it helps, then a 96 P reg 2.8 has the same battery as a 99 T reg 1.9 (i remember asking them this, but i can't remember the specs of the battery) I do however remember them asking me if i had heated seats, a/c etc which suggests if you have alot of high power electrics (you have a Ghia X) then you go for the high amp battery. aaronp Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 If u buy car in northern/eastern Europe where temperatures goes at winter as low as -37 (thats like . . . . diesel "freezes" and not much of diesel car as winter diesel designed to run down to -32 ) most cars diesel or not are fitted with high power (amps) batteries regardless what manual, manufacturer or anyone else says, as in low temperatures battery looses up to 50% of its initial power ! Never hurts to install high current battery like I've got at 110 A, the only thing is that if u do short journeys , ur generator will not have enough current to give good charge due to battery being high current! A lot of people make massive fuss of batteries simple because they don't know much about it!I'm saying this because I lived in eastern Europe for 3 years and I've seen even basic small petrol car having at least 60A battery ! big_kev Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 A 61Ah battery is far too small for a Tdi it should be around 88Ah as a minimum. The fact it is a Ghia X will make matters worse. The VW spec is actually 95Ah. Complain to the garage as they have fitted too small a battery ( probably cheaper for them). Quote
marinabrid Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 the standard replacement should be a part no. 017, a big battery that fills the tray. these are 88-92 a/h depending on who made it. the 096 which is the next battery down is around 70a/h and ive had one of these fitted for 2 years now with no problems.the average price is around Quote
PhilT Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 My battery failed last week (after eight and a half years on the original battery, not bad!) and the garage got me a 70ah one whereas the old one was 90ah. I queried it but they reckon the spec. says 70ah and not to worry 'cos its guaranteed for three years. Seems to work OK. Quote
stevie m Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 If it was me with the problem and the original lasted so long i would stick with that. Others may work fine for now but with my knowledge of batteries will they last as long ? Give a person stress and how do they cope ? Quote
