stage961 Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 Hi i have a problem with the brakes on my Galaxy, replaced the front and rear pads today mistake !I have a very spungy brake now, bleed them all replaced the fronts with the very worn old pads and the brake is backput the new fronts in and spungy again it seems as if the front calipers do-not like the new pads , I have looked at the car and the only thing i can think of is if there is air in the a.b.s. unit dose anybody no how to bleed Regards Mike Quote
MadBaz Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 (edited) runout (uneven wear) on the discs can cause sponginess as the old pads are worn to the profile of disc and new pads aren't, new discs probably would be the only solution. If air is in the abs unit iirc only the dealer can bleed it. Welcome by the way just watch out for that Mumof4, she's only just been released! Edited December 9, 2007 by MadBaz Quote
Neils TDi again Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 One question; did you release the fluid when you pushed the caliper pistons back or did you push it back into the master cylinder. If you pushed it up into the master cylinder it may have reversed the seals and hence a soft pedal, or indeed it may have popped the seals in the ABS unit and the same would apply. Releasing the fluid through the bleed nipple is the way the pistons should be pushed back or this can happen everytime. Quote
Dave-G Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 Every time I replace the fronts I get a very spongy pedal. I know instinct dictates you don't drive it, but I do drive it slowly whilst braking frequently in a relatively quiet area. You will probably find that once the high spots of the disc are worn into the pad the brakes will firm up. For me this occurs within a mile or so. Let usknow how you get on please. Quote
