steve

ps. the reason it will not stick is that the dash on my car is not smooth, not sure about other models

I stick mine between the speedo and the rev counter.

Sticks fine but dont push it on too hard cos its only plastic.

Easy to see also as its directly in front of you.

i stick mine to the quarter light, means that i dont have to take my eyes off the road, and it does not foul the windscreen.

mine is fitted to a rollatrack that slides into the center cubby box thing swapped it off a guy that bought a car from me.If you can find a small rollatrack it looks easy to make let me know if you want a pic.

I had this problem last year when i bought my Tom Tom. I made a wood mount to sit on the dash to the left so it only blocks the rev counter. I will attempt to post some pictures or it. There are four felt pads and one big blob of Whitetak. I works fine for us, perfik.

I made a bracket to hold my mio710 that fits in the middle dash box. I then disguised the button catch by sticking a large hinged ford badge over it. When you hinge up the ford badge and press the catch, it pops up to about 60 degrees. You just pull it forwards to the 90 degree position and magnetrs hold it in place. Took about 27 goes to get it right though!

The nice thing is that its hidden, and so easy to flip out. As my sat nav also does the hands-free phone and traffic messaging, it makes sense to use it every trip.

Looks good there tram, good idea john, my sat nav is umm..well, its kinda never left the house...Got 4 Atlas's in the car though :angry2:

What's the matter with your sat nav ?

Please include gory details !

Nowt wrong with my sat nav, its nice and comfy sat in my bedroom ( its on my PDA )..i just kinda like seeing on an atlas where im supposed to be opposed to where i actually am :angry2:

But i guess they do have their uses.....

Since my mount was nicked a great big wad of blu-tack has sufficed ever since, and it doesn't leave any tell tale circles on quarterlite!

They sell big round pad mounts, made by 3M, on e-bay for 99p.

It sticks to the dashboard and gives a smooth surface for the TomTom to stick to. Mines been there months and has not moved, no vibration either which is a bonus.

thanks for all the replies, did get some sticky pads but just did not stick onto the surface of the dash.

i got a small plastic disc like think for the base with my sat nav and am thinking of buying a secound hand dash lid (storage lid thing) and drilling a small hole through the lid then using a thin screw right though and a nut on the inside, and when or if i get rid of the car i can just put the original back on.

i do kike the idea of it on the quater window but i think that it would be easy for someone to swap when at lights or stopped in traffic.

Davac, if you could post a pic i would be greatful.

thanking you

Greetings

I have a Garmin 2610 bike and car one; in the car it sits on a bean bag mount with a none slip base, plus watch where you put it as plod can say it restricts you vison and smack you wrist with a fixed penilty notice.

Speak to you soon.

Hi guys

I too had the usual 'where do you put the Sat Nav' question.

I wanted the unit easily visable but hideable. I came up with a solution that the wife was happy with too.

I have a Garmin nuvi which came with the suction mount as standard. I didn't bother using the suction cup, and made a bracket which fixed to the back of the remaining mount.

This bracket secures to the side of the centre pocket using a 'keyhole' fixing so the bracket can be removed and stowed in the centre bin when not in use.

The power lead and a lead for the wired FM modulator are fed down through the back of the bin and down behind the dash where they are wired behind the stereo.

Just another solution for you to have a look at (as long as the pics upload)

Any questions, please ask away.

Russ

I'm sure the Mancs are a fine lot and wouldn't dream of removing a SAT NAV at Christmas from a car parked in a masive car park and left for hours unattended.

I trust you don't have your home address logged on it ......

Having come from Brizol I know you wouldn't leave one on display there either.

Hope all works out OK

Hi Russ, thanks for the pictures, i think i now know what i will be doing on sunday, looks really good and is just where i wanted it to be.

once i have done it i will post a few pics as well.

what model is your nuvi, i have a 660 fm with the traffic update and was wondering as you also have a nuvi how you traffic reciever works.

on mine when i get in the car i put on the sat nav and the wire on the window, after a few mins, sometime as long as ten, i get a signal from the traffic thing, ie: the led on the plug turns green, but after a short time it starts to go from green to orange, does yours do this or does it stay on green,

thanks

regards

Hey there Steve

Sorry for the delayed response - Crimbo has been getting in the way.

Not sure which model mine is and I haven't got it with me to check, but the traffic thingy has no illumination but seems to connect pretty much straight away but I have not as of yet noticed it actually doing much as I don't use it very often.

I run the lead straught from the side of the unit back to the screen, then use the two suction pads to run along the bottom of the screen to the right. It works for me.

I will have a look and check the model No. for you.

Whitty - I may have my original drawing still, I could check for you - is it possible to send a pic on this forum or would I have to email?

Did you make yours up yet Steve?

hi rustynail, and thank you for the reply.

i had to return my unit to halfords as it wents nuts on its directions, halfords changed the unit with no problems which was good news.

what i manged to do was use two of the discs, 1 that i got with the first unit i put a small hole in it and screwed it to the top of the dash/lid thing, and then the secound disc stuck stright onto it so it works really well, must say that yours does look better.

i will post a pic if i get time on saturday .

thanks once again.

all the best for the new year

Hi whitty

I do have a drawing if that helps, but you have a couple of options -

1) I post a pic on this site and you will have to work with what comes out, or

2) If you or a mate has 'AutoCAD' I could email you a copy of the original, or I could send you a full size .jpg pic - just PM me with your address

Let me know if option 2 is best and I will sort it for you, else - pic below

PS - if you do have AutoCAd, as you know you could plot at 1:1 and just cut from the template - easy

The material used was 1.5mm (16 guage) mild steel, and the keyholes were positioned to suit 2 off M4 x 20mm button (or dome head) screws

Any questions - please ask

Cheers

Russ
