jason 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Hi everyone in galaxy land, i have only recently purchased my 2.0 dohc petrol on a P reg with 97,000 on the clock. no service history but the last couple of MOTs. She has large 215 65 16 wheels/tyres, no roofbars etc and seems to drive quit well. I am going to give her a good service at weekend weather permitting (air, oil, oil filter, plugs, pollen filter). Was wondering what am i better of checking, ie known weak spots (already changed rear shock abs, brakes all round(pads n shoes)know i need to do the frond shock abs top mounts)also what is the average fuel economy is for these little beasts as was told to expect about 28 round town and 32 to 35 on motorway run, is this realistic or am i dreaming lol. i know this thread has probably been covered before but i had a quick look and saw a couple of debates on the economy, but no actual figures for the 2.0 petrol, thanks for any input Quote
jason 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Author Report Posted November 30, 2007 oops just noticed that i put 215 65 16 and not 215 55 16 as i should have, sorry about that getting tired now, lol Quote
mumof4 Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 welcome, id just check everything under the bonnet :lol:as for MPG................................................................................................................take shares out in BP :D Quote
tiny Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Probably slightly optimistic with the town driving, low to mid 20's with mine but admittedly im no slouch. I think mine is in the (very) low 30's on a run, but ive not really worked it out that accurately. Are you certain you need to change your strut top mounts? They do look like they will have a lot of play (up and down) when the car is parked, I changed mine rather unnecessarily last year and I can tell you its a pig of a job getting the top nuts off. If you are certain they need to be changed, start soaking them with WD40 well in advance. The galaxy and its variants are very prone to wearing out the drop links, do a search on the forum and you will see what i mean, the symptoms are a knocking from the front, and possibly a creaking if they have been replaced with cheapo ebay replacements! jason 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Author Report Posted December 1, 2007 welcome, id just check everything under the bonnet :Das for MPG................................................................................................................take shares out in BP :D Ouch, not quite what i wanted to hear, specially when im used to my mondeao est doing about 40 mpg round town. Still she has to go as with the arival of another baby (6 now, but only 4 at home with us, pheww  ) we cant all fit in her  .lol. Still small loss compared to the great driving position and the bags of space that we have gained. Checked the front drop links and there is slight play in osf and some niticable play in the nsf one so i will deffinately be changing them first, ordered them today should have them mon afternoon or tues morn. MadBaz Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 Welcome Jason, Mine averages around 25mpg  , the only thing I could add is if/when clutch needs changing make sure the slave cylinder is done at same time. Quote
tiny Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 I ended up cutting off one of the nuts on my struts with a dremmel, but having already been at it with a chisel I'd nackered the threads already. The usual problem is that on a siezed strut top nut, you end up rounding off the 7mm in-hex (allen type) head on the strut. Quote
jason 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Author Report Posted December 5, 2007 Picked up the drop links today (actualy cost Quote
