I have been suffering heating problems with my Galaxy for some time. It currently now only throws out cold air, not the best thing at this time of year :14: It has been suggested that a flap may be stuck in the heater box so I intend to get the box out and see if that is the case. The heater is controlled by the climate control system.

What I want to know is the following:-

Is the heater box a sealed unit or is it possible to get to the flaps and free them if stuck?

Any help will be appreciated.

If I remember correctly there are 3 flaps on the heater unit and the one on the top ( the awkward one to get at ! ) is the hot/cold one.

The flaps are known to stick occasionally and can be freed.

I had this problem on my SKODA , believe or not but very simple thing sorted it out.....while the blower on full speed , I've sprayed WD40 after removing filter, did get unpleasant smell inside the car for some time, and got oily all around the vents, but done the job as well!

Cant recommend, done this simply because suddenly got crazy idea...I'm good at things like that, sometimes it works!

to get it fully out it's a total dash out job! there is a test function on the system that will run the flaps through their range of movements, you could try that, and see what happens?

Temperature Valve Control Motor

Press button 3 or 4 until "Hi" or "Lo" appears on the display.

Air Distribution Control Motor

Press button 1 or 5. The control motor then goes once through every setting.

Centre Vent Control Motor

Press button 2. The control motor then goes once through every setting.

The air box has now been removed, checked and all flaps are working fine.

This hasn't however solved the problem as there is still no heat. Is there any other possible causes, someone suggested that it might be something electrical.

Please help as it's getting bleeding cold and a divorce is on the cards if I don't get this sorted soon.

Have you checked that there is actually any hot water flowing through the heater box? Get the engine warmed up and then feel the pipes that disappear through the bulk head. They should be hot. If not either there is a blockage or an air lock.

I'm guessing that the temperature gauge reads normal - otherwise you would have told us?! Our 2.3 had a failed thermostat for years - it always ran cold and the heater was useless. Fixed it this year and now the heater works!
