MadBaz Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 WON'T WORK, nice thought thoughSupermarkets are BP/Esso's biggest customers, 69p a litre I don't think so, the chancellors take is about that much. And as for sending me an unsolicited email, you'll get it back with a pressie!!! ;) :16: Quote

adrianf. Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Wasnt there something in a budget a while age about freezing duty on fuel but adding it at a later date. Maybe that date has arrived. Quote
mumof4 Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 its to do with the price of oil me thinks. Quote
El Dingo Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 It's all about duty and tax, as Big_Kev's post demonstrates. Unfortunately, parties of all political colours would like to see more tax on fuel. The blue ones instigated the fuel tax escalator, the red ones increased it, stalled it, then increased it again, and the yellow ones would like to 'significantly increase' it. So we can't even vote for a (realistically electable) low fuel tax party... :14: Quote
MadBaz Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 So we can't even vote for a (realistically electable) low fuel tax party... LETS START ONE,The Low Fuel Tax Party.... Bigjeeze Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 It's not about Tax- Yes the tax is excessive and Yes it has added an extra 2p per litre recently - but these rises are about the oil companies cashing in big time on the current price of oil. The fuel we are using currently is somewhat over 2 years old - It isn't oil that was drilled and pumped at current prices - it was obtained when prices were at a normal level - So what it does mean is that the Oil companies are going to make an absolute fortune as they are collecting around 10-15p per litre extra with no extra cost. Witness Sheel & BP's profits last year whne this situation occured the year before. The chancellor is maing lots of extra money too - but it's the oil companies. I would think that this protest needs to be ion the order fo 3-5 days to have any effect. Please note the mail was originated in the US - We don't have anything like 300m people in the UK (well maybe illegals) Quote
big_kev Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 Apparently this Monday the 19th is the day not to buy fuel..... http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/busi...icle2875860.ece Quote
