bigmac161 Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Hi everyone i have a VW Sharan GL 96 and ever since ive had it ive had problems with 1.No lights on buzzer 2.Interior lights work when i take keys out of ignition but if i open car doors they don't work I'm not sure what fuses to look at or relays so if anyone could help i would be extremely grateful as ive left my lights on 3 times now lol and when i get up in the morning its quite dark and i cant see a thing inside unless i turn on the interior light ! bigmac161 Posted October 29, 2007 Author Report Posted October 29, 2007 Sorry theres a couple more questions i couldnt edit my previous post  Some times when i first open my car the boot opens,i get in drive about then i go to open the boot hey presto its locked !! Plus can i add a keyfob to this sharan as i haven't got one or does it need a sensor ? Quote
big_kev Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 I would suspect the switch or wiring to at the drivers door as this would affect both your lights on buzzer and interior lights. Quote
NikpV Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Some times when i first open my car the boot opens,i get in drive about then i go to open the boot hey presto its locked !! the boot will lock after you have driven for a while, unless you open the drivers door (or passengers IIRC) which will unlock it, some sort of security measure to stop scum opening your boot at the lights, hold up in traffic and nicking things Quote
bigmac161 Posted October 29, 2007 Author Report Posted October 29, 2007 Many thanks will check my door tomorrow  What about added remote central locking is it possible ? have i already got it but need a fob ? Quote
bigmac161 Posted October 30, 2007 Author Report Posted October 30, 2007 Right update when i unlock my doors all lights come on,but if i leave the car unlocked and open my doors (all doors) no interior lights come on ! so i checked door switches and wiring to doors (no broken wires) all are ok accept the rear nearside door the switch is broken! (would this stop it working) ive also tried swapping them to the drivers door still not working ! and the lights buzzer still dont work any other ideas ? Quote

(would this stop it working) ive also tried swapping them to the drivers door still not working ! and the lights buzzer still dont work any other ideas ? Unlocking will activate lights (controlled by c/l module) but if they don't come on when doors opened (controlled by door ajar switch to ground) then fuses or relay/buzzer (it's a combined unit) is at fault. Fuses 7 & 8 (5amp) should power the relay/buzzer (H9, bottom row 3rd from left) available from VW/Frauds. If fuses are ok then replace buzzer/relay and your prob should be cured. PS I did a post on adding remote C/L HERE Edited October 30, 2007 by MadBaz Quote
bigmac161 Posted October 30, 2007 Author Report Posted October 30, 2007 (edited) Many thanks could you tell me where the buzzer/relay is or what number : :angry2: its ok i'm a noob is this it (H9, bottom row 3rd from left) Edited October 30, 2007 by bigmac161 Quote
bigmac161 Posted November 2, 2007 Author Report Posted November 2, 2007 Hello me again lol Ive just fitted a new relay still no joy :o no lights on buzzer and no interior lights when i open doorsive checked wiring again and fuses they are all ok !Ive noticed that when i open my boot the icon telling me my boots open on my cluster/instrument panel is lit in red,if i open any other doors rear or front there's no icon saying these doors are openSo is it possible all my door switches are knackerd or is there another fuse or relay that i'm missing ;) I feel i'm being right pain on these forums but any help would be really appreciated  Quote
MadBaz Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 I feel i'm being right pain on these forums but any help would be really appreciated  Your not a pain, I consider working thru the Haynes and TIS wiring diagrams (one does not correlate to the other) a challenge, I must admit though I'm a little stumped on this one though :19: , still looking and scratching head. gregers Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 could you not test the door switches,im sure if you remove the switches and bridge the wires then the lights should work?but are you absolutely certain that the wires in the door pillars are not broken? Quote
bigmac161 Posted November 2, 2007 Author Report Posted November 2, 2007 As far as i can tell the wires are not broken ive checked each one at the switch and they seem fine,i will check tomorrow about bridging the wires together to see if the interior lights come onJust seems strange that my door warning lights dont come on on the dash but the boot one does' so either all my door switches are broken or a fuse or relays gone Quote
MadBaz Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Just thinking out loud....Boot is on a separate circuit and doesn't operate overhead interior lightsDoor switches go to ground ie when switch is closed (door open) circuit is complete therefore all 4 switches would have to be faulty and this is unlikely. as is wiring in door pillar coming adrift. And after studying Hayne and TIS for a long while I just don't know? Haynes makes reference to fuses 53 and 55 also to the accessory delay relay and delayed interior light relay, but I don't know where these are (part of c/l module? im sure theres a click from under seat when interior lights time out. iirc there are some fuses & relays behind binnacle near ecu which is where (TIS says) the relevant connectors should be) and failure of these relays or fuses shouldn't let the boot lights come on. TIS is just too simplefied, or theres a lot missing! Can't be a loose earth, or can it? BigMac does your clock work ok?Do the lights come on if you switch them on?Do you have any courtesy lights ie footwells or door entry? do they come on when boot is opened?Does the glove box light work? Quote

Clock works fineyesyes i have footwell and door entry lights but they only come on when key is removed or when i open doors with key not when i open boot or any other door without use of keyyes to add to this if i open the boot the boot interior lights work in the boot but interior lights and footwell lights in the rear and front dont work Edited November 2, 2007 by bigmac161 Quote
MadBaz Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Oh bugger, I'm lost on this now, when you've got chance could you take a door switch apart and connect the brown/yellow wire to ground, lights should come on (if they don't then it's another part of circuit eliminated), also if you do the same with the black/white wire the door ajar warning should work (or not)? do this on drivers door and one of the other doors. Quote
bigmac161 Posted November 2, 2007 Author Report Posted November 2, 2007 Thanks for all your help btw This is a bit strange tbh door warning open lights on the dash only work for boot and not doorsNo interior lights or lights on buzzerBut boot interior lights work ok and if i turn each interior light on manually they all work Quote
MadBaz Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 (edited) I need to lie down, brain hurting, up at 5.30 tomorrow, will have a look at mine in afternoon 2 c if i can replicate fault. Edited November 2, 2007 by MadBaz Quote
bigmac161 Posted November 3, 2007 Author Report Posted November 3, 2007 Right checked this morning i bridged the wires to earth on the door switch brown/black to earth interior lights come on brown/blue to earth door ajar light on dash comes on and buzzer works when lights left on tried the same on rear door works the same now is this good news as it seems my switches are at fault or is there a bigger problem Quote
mk2vr6 Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 looks like you have lost the ground connection? the switches are double pole, two feeds but they share a common ground IIRC? tap into the ground wire for one of the switches, make it off to a good grounding point, replace the switch and see if the lights/dash display comes on? Quote
bigmac161 Posted November 3, 2007 Author Report Posted November 3, 2007 looks like you have lost the ground connection? the switches are double pole, two feeds but they share a common ground IIRC? tap into the ground wire for one of the switches, make it off to a good grounding point, replace the switch and see if the lights/dash display comes on? Right ive tapped into middle brown and earthed it to a earthing point and nothing happens !so i tapped into the other wires and earthed them lights and warning lights work,so it looks like the middle brown/earth is ok as ive tapped a wire from the brown/black to this wire and my lights come on so it is earthing.... So its looking more and more like all my door switches are gone  tbh this is very strange maybe 1 or 2 but all 4 switches gone :P Quote
bigmac161 Posted November 4, 2007 Author Report Posted November 4, 2007 well ive just borrowed my brothers switches from his 97 galaxy and they all work :25: so i will need to go and buy 4 new switches from vw/fraud tomorrow, more than likely they will be expensive as its only a switch relay just cost me Quote
MadBaz Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Sorry about the relay Bigmac, but glad got to the problem, note to self, check the obvious however unlikely first  Quote
danicroitor Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 I have a similar problem, except on my car the all interior lights are completely down, doesn't matter if I use the switches they are just all down. Quote
