Hi I bought a 1997 2.3L automatic ford galaxy yesterday and it's only today i've noticed when turning on the ignition the abs light lights up and the car wont start. After playing with the stick a few times putting it into drive then back into park it finally starts. I'm not sure if this may just be a simple problem. The gear box works fine when the engine is started. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's probably the Gear lever inhibitor switch, iirc this has been covered b4, use the search facility, I couldn't see it in the FAQ, If the ABS light stays on after starting it's possibly the clockspring, again covered b4.

Oh, and welcome to the nuthouse

I think you mean possibly a dodgy abs sensor, normally located in the wheel hubs not the steering wheel!

Thats exactly what my wife told the doctor about my performance lately. :D

May be misreading, but the ABS light is meant to come on when you just turn on the ignition. As Madbaz states, it is if it does not go out after the engine has started that a problem exists.

Re: starting problem have a look here

Sorry (had another senior moment) I'm thinking of Airbag clockspring, as Mk2vr6 states probably a dodgy wheel sensor/ring.
