adrianf. Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 OK so we all know the Gal /Alhambra / Sharan are the same car under the badge but what i am wondering is..... is one better than the other two In other words do any of them come with gizmos and gadgets compared to the others, or is one better build quality than the others. I know most people will probably say theres is the best (as i would) but it was just a thought. Quote
mumof4 Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 are you talking basic model here or with added options??top range ghias or lower end of the range?? Quote
big_kev Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 (edited) There is no difference in the build quality although some of the Galaxy's come with Ford Engines ( 2.0l & 2.3l ).The Galaxy vehicle is a VW Sharan with some minor cosmetic changes. The Alhambra is a VW Sharan with a SEAT Alhambra badge on. Looking at the spec for the top of the range variants I think they are all about the same.Supposedly the Alhambra is better equipped according to most review...however it may just mean that the variants are not equivalent....or SEAT sent a better one for review than the others. It should be also be noted that there were much more than twice as many galaxys sold in the UK than the Sharan and Alhambra combined...! Edited September 18, 2007 by big_kev Quote

MadBaz Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 Don't worry that ford engine will make up for them :angry2: Never had a prob with any Ford engine other than a bit of tappet rattle, its the crap thats bolted on/around 'em that falls to bits Quote
insider Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 I don't think the heated windscreen was available on the VWs or Seats. Quote
big_kev Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 I don't think the heated windscreen was available on the VWs or Seats. It certainly was on the Seats which means it would have been on the Sharans as well. Quote
adrianf. Posted September 18, 2007 Author Report Posted September 18, 2007 Cheers folks. I realise that higher spec cars will have more bolted on them, was wondering which is best value. Are you going to pay more for the VW cos its got a VW badge etc . Do the Seats have a sportier suspension set up or did i just dream that, Quote
MadBaz Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 One thing worth mentioning is the all the diesels are VW and the Galaxy petrols are Ford units, without getting into the diesel vs petrol scrap, The diesels and VW petrols can all be connected to VAG-com where as the Ford petrols are very limited to any diy ECU communication. adrianf. Posted September 18, 2007 Author Report Posted September 18, 2007 Also can you tell much difference between a 115 and a 130 BHP Ive never driven a 130 but cant emagine that 15 bhp would make that much difference Quote
tim-spam Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 petrols are Ford unitsExcept for the 2.8, which is VW. Only the 2.0 and 2.3 fitted to the galaxy alone were Ford units. Quote
big_kev Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 Also can you tell much difference between a 115 and a 130 BHP Ive never driven a 130 but cant emagine that 15 bhp would make that much difference This is an increase of about 13% in power which is quite substantial. The effect would be that it would run smoother especially under load at speed.Basically if you were towing a caravan, there would be no difference when moving away or at low speeds but it would pull better at speed up steep hills. This increased power obviously costs in fuel consumption....has to be more than 13% ! It is analogous to driving with a lead boot on your foot. Quote
Saif Rehman Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 This increased power obviously costs in fuel consumption....has to be more than 13% ! Kev, according to Parkers Guide the difference in mpg for the 115bhp and 130bhp is only 1 mpg. Quote
mumof4 Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 You know what they say about thinking adrian..verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry dangerous!!...well...it is for me. Quote

NikpV Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 (edited) comparing the 115 and 130 diesels....... The effect would be that it would run smoother especially under load at speed. I remember the initial complaints when introduced were completely the oposite and it was said to run more roughly, but whether that was ironed out - I cant remember it was a few years ago Edited September 19, 2007 by NikpV Quote
