Saif Rehman Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 p.s. I am waiting for some Newbie from North Wales to come on the Forum saying that the Gal he has bought seems to have a missing booster heater....is this normal.? ... :P You can always turn round and say that it was an optional extra! :P Quote
mike99 Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 no probs kev, I think the reason there wasn't more people bidding on this was because they too probably thought it could be faulty. I px'd the car in manchester, so hopefully no one local will come knocking to see if there should of been a heater! Quote
aaronp Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Hi all, as I'm new member and can't create new topics, so I thought this is right topic for my query :Anyway, I've started on new project on my 03 Galaxy TDI, where I've decided to bypass on board computerthat turns my aux booster on , when it thinks its cold enough, but I'm not happy with that! so after spending one week on this project, its basically done !and it was easier than I thought, I bought this item of ebay EBERSPACHER COMBINATION TIMER WITH FAULT DIAGNOSISto control my aux heater, not as much use of it, as I thought but will be good to reset faults.Well it took me some time to figure it out what wires exactly do and what happens in one or another instance, finally last Sunday Imade it work 100%, but the problem is that me galaxy got climate control which made much harder to integrate, basically now as soon as timer turns it on ,its liketurning car key in to II position, where everything is activated, and of course that Quote
raymac Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 8.5 c yesterday morning after my nightshift and my aux heater never kicked in :D now am i right in thinking that this should kick in at 10c or below, only replaced the glowplug in it last octoberish and it went sweet as a nut all last winter, is there anything i should be doing to make it kick in? i'm sure i read on here somewhere that it might need a bit of a good rev to get it to kick in,all possible ideas considered or am i going to stripping it down again :D Quote
marinabrid Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 try bridging the sensor on the wiper linkage, also do what i did last year, i gave it a few taps with a rubber mallet just after starting the car, it burst into like with a cloud of smoke and worked fine.if that fails, check the wires to the metering pump in front t of the fuel tank havent rotted , mine had a few years ago. i cut out the old wires and replaced and off it went fine. marinabrid Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 (edited) jeeeeeez doesit never stop, after i bought the booster heater from mike99 it worked fine until a few days ago when i put some diesel with water into my tank. drained out the tank and changed filters , now ive got the car running fine again after a few spluttering mornings the poor wee heater is playing up.it fires up as normal but after running for a few mins it starts popping and you can hear inside it like a backfiring noise, then it goes into shutdown mode, runs a few more mins then stops. if i restrt the car it goes thru the same sequence again.can the residual water cause this popping in the heatrer, anyone know out there. im hoping it will clear as the fuel thats in the tank get renewed over time. Ex-Galaxy person Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 I've bridged the sensor on mine this year, as it rarely fired up before. However, even though it now always fires up when cold, it also always cuts out after about 10-20 seconds; then it fires up again about a minute after that, and runs OK until the coolant temperature gets up to normal, at which point it shuts down as it's supposed to Anyone know why it might always cut out initially? It's not a huge problem, 'cos it always fires up again and stays on. Just curious really. Phillip Quote
aaronp Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Its fine, my does the same ! its like quick self test Quote
Biscuit Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Please help!!!Yesterday Booster heater threw loads of white smoke out! thought it was glow plug, checked it, it was working fine! This morning white smoke again! then cleared up but every so often smoke bellows out and i can smell dieseldoes anybody have any clues as to why this could be?????thanks Quote
Smilge Posted October 19, 2007 Author Report Posted October 19, 2007 Gents ...sounds to me as though people are having problems with either glow plugs, metering pumps or they need to be removed and de-coked. There is a good post on removing the booster heater and changing the glow plug somewhere on here. Good luck. Quote

mos Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 After fitting a new glowplug, and making some new brushes for the after run pump last year, mine fired up no probs this morning.....gives you a nice warm feeling! :-) Don't forget, if your gal is more than 4 years old and you have trouble getting the heater going then make sure your after-run pump is working. With the hood open, you should hear it running for a couple of minutes after you turn the engine off. Its Quote

Rusty Nail Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Can anyone explain why my aux heater will choose its own start up temp? Two weeks ago, 12.5 and its going, last week 7.0 and nothing, today 11.0 and working - does it get the weather forcast from the internet? The one thing I can say is that it always fires and works well. Its not a great problem as when it is cold it does the job, I am just intruiged, Cheers Quote

gregers Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 right an up date on my booster heater saga.finally received a phone call from the dealer who i bought the car from today(after various visits and shouting rather loudly) well the firm who carried out the first repair LO AND BEHOLD went into liquidation   but they still had my heater and have started up again with a slight change in there name, they contacted the dealer today to say THEYVE FINALLY put it on the bench to do a test and basically the brains inside are FUBAR'D and that it was going to cost(the dealer)over 200 quid,NOW THATS ON TOP OF THE 204 POUNDS THEY CHARGED THEM TO CARRY OUT THE SO CALLED REPAIR IN THE FIRST PLACE so my reply to the dealer was perhaps in FUTURE he should listen to his mug punters for once when they try to give them a bit of advice,so the dealer has refused to allow them to FIX IT and is now trying to source one from his contacts(ME THINKS FORDS ARE GOING TO GET A PHONE CALL)part suppliers and bear with him F**K ME BEAR WITH HIM ive been bearing with them for the last 6-7 months,he has assured me they will sort it out and give me a working booster heater.i wait with baited breath.
